Used all 8 Vigors against enemies.

While the action and shooting part in Bioshock Infinite is simply amazing, Bioshock wouldn’t be a Bioshock in its actual meaning without the special abilities also known in this game as Vigors. All in all there are 8 Vigors at your disposal and you are very likely to find and obtain them through your natural progression. On the top of that, some of the Vigors are story related and can’t be missed while others can be unlocked or purchased via “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines. I, personally, unlocked the whole 8 without even trying and through my natural playthrough.

1. Possession:
It is story related and can’t be missed. You will get it almost at the very beginning of the game from a woman at the carnival. She will hand you a free vigor sample and you won’t be able to resist (after all – it’s FREE Stuff!). Possession allows you to turn enemies into allies and use them to your advantage. The very same second they appear under Possession’s effect, those fellows will start fighting on your side. This effect will last until they get killed or until the effect fades out. You can also upgrade “Possession” in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.

2. Devil’s Kiss:
You are going to obtain this vigor pretty early in the game after you kill a Fireman. Devil’s Kiss can be used in two different ways and both of them are more than just effective. The first option allows you to throw fire projectiles and deal pretty heavy damage to the targets thrown at. Another option allows you to set traps and drop fire projectiles on the ground. When enemies step on this projectile, it will explode, again, causing pretty serious damage to the victim. Devil’s Kiss is effective in any possible situation and in a thought out combination can become a serious advantage in your fighting strategy. This Vigor also has a side effect which is both cool and creepy at the same time. When being used, Devil’s Kiss will cause the Booker’s hand to be surrounded by flames and will burn out the flesh from all fingers. You can also upgrade “Devil’s Kiss” in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.

3. Murder of Crows:
You are going to obtain this vigor after you fight the hooded people and kill the leader of the Cult of the Raven. This particular vigor gives you an amazing opportunity to control a group of crows. This can be used in different strategy combinations and either sent on the enemy to stop from attacking you or can be set as a trap on the ground. The very same moment someone bad comes close to the trap, craws will attack him and, depending on the power level, cause severe damage. Murder of Crows vigor was originally created in the city of Columbia and you can also upgrade it in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.

4. Bucking Bronco:
You can obtain this vigor in three different ways. The first one allows you to put your hands on the Bucking Bronco at the very beginning of the game. When you find yourself at the Columbia Carnival, you will be offered to test the Bucking Bronco. In order to do that, simply agree to play the “Cast the Devil Out” game. But also keep in mind that you might not keep the vigor, so try to do your best to make things go the other way round. Your second option to receive this vigor is to get inside the Ticket Booth on your way to the Hall of Heroes. The simplest way to try out this vigor is to get it from the “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.
As for the Bucking Bronco itself, its abilities are rather simple but happen to be more than just effective. Bucking Bronco allows you to lift multiply enemies in the air and either kill them or drop on the ground causing some damage. For instance, if an enemy has less than 25% of health and has been lifted in the air, when the Bucking Bronco stops its influence, he will be dropped on the ground and killed instantly. I, personally, found this vigor very useful when progressing through the game in its later stages. The good news is that you can still use Bucking Bronco on Heavy Hitters like Firemen, Zealots, and Beasts but, unfortunately, you won’t be able to lift Handymen or Motorized Patriots (even if your Bucking Bronco is fully upgraded).

5. Shock Jockey:
Shock Jockey is a story related vigor and can’t be missed. As you’ve probably guessed, Shock Jockey projects electrical charges. Well, this charge not only stuns enemies but also makes them take double damage for a short period of time. It is also very useful when used against mechanical enemies including Motorized Patriots and any Automaton emplacement. Another useful ability of this vigor is to create a trap that will stun the approached enemy with a powerful charge and will make him a vulnerable target. You can upgrade Shock Jockey vigor in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.

6. Charge:
You can obtain Charge after leaving the Police impound. Charge vigor will be behind a locked door in the office room. But, if at the moment you reach the door it is closed, just go down the elevator and do your quest and when you come back up the cage will already be opened. As for the Charge itself, it allows you to create a tornado blow and with the help of this tornado travel instantly from one place to the other. It kind of reminds the Blink ability from Dishonored. When you activate Charge, Booker DeWitt will start spinning his Sky Hook and when you release the Vigor, a massive wind blow will send your character in the aimed direction. Here’s where and when you can use this ability:
- if you aim for an enemy, Charge will strike it with all its power and will either kick it back or kill if the health is poor. Though, you can also load your charge to make it even more powerful and this action of yours will make the already mentioned Charge even more powerful. Using this on weaker enemies will cause them to die instantly by sending them about 15 meters from you;
- you can use Charge to get closer to enemies in a short period of time. This will help you to surprise your opponent and kill him from the close range distance. You can also Charge your character when in the air to either catch someone or to direct your falling character on Sky Rails;
- if you, somehow, get surrounded by enemies, Charge will help you to get from the trap and regroup for better tactical dislocation. Believe it or not, but fighting enemies from behind is a lot easier than fighting them face to face, especially – when surrounded from all sides.
It is recommended to combine Charge and fire weapon to make your hero a lot more effective on the battlefield. You can upgrade Charge vigor in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.

7. Undertow:
Undertow vigor can be found in Fink's office, lying next to the dead body. This ability allows you to push enemies back at close ranges. This can be useful in different situations. For instance, you need to make your way through a narrow passage or you are simply surrounded by a few bad fellows. Well, all you have to do is to use Undertow vigor and it will push your enemy with the great force. This is especially useful against enemies who stand right at the edge of a balcony or floating platform. Using Undertow against them will definitely make those guys fall over the guarding fence down. Also, Undertow has a secondary function that allows Booger to pull enemies at a distance towards him. In this case his hand will turn into a watery tentacle and will drop the bad guy like a doll. Unfortunately, Undertow is not effective against most enemies and won’t deal any damage to them. Though, it will help you out in fights against Handymen, Motorized Patriots and Turrets and will stun those bad guys. You can also upgrade Undertow vigor in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.

8. Return to Sender:
There are a few places where you can find the Return to Sender vigor. One of the first locations where this can be found is the Salty Oyster Bar secret room. In order to get there, leave the port and make your way to the new area. As you progress, rather sooner than later you are supposed to be stopped by a locked door. This door leads into the Salty Oyster Bar. Though, you won’t be able to enter the Bar unless you find a secret button and this button will appear ONLY after you open the lock into Founder’s Books. Founder’s Books itself is near the exit to the area. Now, find the Voxophone and listen to it. It will tell you where the secret button is. You will find the Vigor lying on a table.
Return to Sender has a few abilities that might be pretty helpful in your fighting strategy. First of all, it can be used to create the magnetic field and absorb projectiles sent at you. Though, it won’t save you from melee attacks. The other thing that this vigor can do (which also happens to be my personal favorite) is the option to gather all the projectiles shot at you and the more you hold the button, the bigger your orange magnetic field gets automatically gathering and holding everything flying your way. When you think it’s enough – simply release the button and your character will fire the field as a projectile energy ball injuring everything standing nearby. On the top of that you can also use Return to Sender to create traps that have pretty damaging effects on enemies. You can upgrade Return to Sender vigor in “Veni! Vidi! Vigor!” machines.
