Xbox 360 Did anyone play Dark Souls?

Has anyone here played Dark Souls? I rented the game though Game Fly thinking it would be a cross between Skyrim and Final Fantasy, because the review I read for it said it was an Action/Adventure RPG involving dungeons and dragons, magic, etc. Graphics are great, just like the review said, but game play, specifically the character's movement, is awkward. I don't know if I'm going to warm up to this game or not.

For those of you that have played Dark Souls, what did you think about it?

My husband is playing this game at the exact moment that I type this! He reports that the combat and upgrades are good, but that the game is definitely not like Skyrim or FF. He reports that Dark Souls appeals better to masochists because it can be very hard and unforgiving; i.e., you die a lot.
