The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the fourth installment in the Elder Scrolls series, and the first of the series to appear on the Xbox 360. Released on March 20, 2006 and developed by Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games, Oblivion throws players into the world of Tamriel and allows them to do pretty much whatever they want. You start the game by developing a character, choosing every possible aspect of the character, then find yourself in prison. After the linear escape sequence (which doubles as the game’s tutorial), you find yourself in an open world with the ability to go absolutely anywhere that you want. The game includes six major quest lines that can be completed, each of which will lead you through different parts of Tamriel.

The DLC Shivering Isles was released on March 27, 2007, and takes place in the Shivering Isles, also known as the Realm of Madness. The expansion is included in the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion that was released on September 10, 2007.

The core game of Oblivion contains 50 achievements totaling up to 1000 gamer points. The DLC Shivering Isles contains an additional 10 achievements totaling up to 250 gamer points. None of the achievements are overly difficult, but getting 100% in Oblivion and Shivering Isles will require a lot of dedication and time. Expect to invest anywhere from 50 to 100 hours in the game to do all of the achievements. The great thing about Oblivion is that it can take upwards of 150 hours to do every last thing in the game, so it’s a good investment if your game budget is limited.

The only spoilers that are absolutely necessary to this guide are included, so be prepared and read with caution.

Playthrough Guide
All of the achievements in Oblivion can be done in a single playthrough. If you’re main goal is to get 100% of the achievements, play the game on the easiest possible difficulty. While working on the major quest lines, pick one and follow it all the way through before starting any of the others. All of the achievements are separated by the quest line that awards them, so it should be easy to follow. For example, if you’re working on the main quest line achievements, scroll down to “Main Quest Achievement Guide” and follow it all the way through before starting on the Thieves Guild “Achievement Guide.” You can do anything in any order, but completing one thing before moving on to another will make it easier to follow along and ensure that you don’t miss anything.

The only missable achievement in the game is in the Shivering Isles expansion. When you reach the point where you can choose to become Duke of Dementia or Duke of Mania, create a save before you choose so that you can reload the save and select the other option in order to get both in one playthrough. Alternatively, you can start a new game and only do the requirements to get the Duke that you missed.

closed an oblivion gate.jpg Closed an Oblivion Gate (50G)
Closed an Oblivion Gate, Main Quest.
As you progress through the main quest you will eventually reach the city of Kvatch. You’ll need to fight your way through the city and the main tower until you find an object called the Sigil Stone. The Sigil Stone floats in a pillar of fire at the top of the tower. Pick it up the gate will close while also transporting you back to Cyrodiil. Once you’ve arrived back in Cyrodiil the achievement is yours.

located the shrine of dagon.jpg Located the Shrine of Dagon (50G)
Located the Shrine of Dagon, Main Quest.
You’ll need to find four books in order to locate the Shrine of Dagon. The four books are the volumes of the Mythic Dawn Commentaries. They are located:
  • Volume 1: recovered from the body of the Mythic Dawn assassin that attempts to kill Baurus in Luther Broad’s Boarding House. The house is located in the Elven Gardens District of the Imperial City. The assassination attempt takes place in the basement.
  • Volume 2: take Volume 1 to Tar-Meena in the Arcane University and Tar-Meena will give you Volume 2.
  • Volume 3: head to the First Edition bookstore in the Market District of the Imperial City. The book is located there but is being held for someone. When the buyer shows up to get the book, talk to him and mention that the Mythic Dawn assassinated the Emperor and he will hand over Volume 3.
  • Volume 4: after Baurus is saved he sets up a meeting with a Mythic Dawn member. Head to the meeting in the sewers beneath the Elven Gardens and you will be ambushed by a group of Mythic Dawn cultists. Volume 4 will be on one of the corpses after the fight.
Take all four volumes to Tar-Meena in the Arcane University and she will help you to figure out where the Mythic Dawn is located. She will direct you to the Tomb of Prince Camarril in the Talos Plaza District. Go there between 12:00PM and 12:30PM and the runes on the tomb will glow, allowing you to activate the tomb and display a map of Cyrodiil. The location of the Mythic Dawn hideout will be marked. Once you’ve located the hideout the achievement is yours.

  • Ring of Namira
    • The shrine is located to the east of Bruma’s southern wall. Take along a bunch of cheap wine and drink as much as you need to in order to lower your personality below 20, then activate the shrine to get the Ring of Namira. You must be at least level 5.
  • Skull of Corruption
    • Speak with Luther Broad in the Elven Gardens District of the Imperial City (60 Disposition score required) or Ontus Vanin in the Talos Plaza District to have the shrine’s location marked on your map. You can find the shrine southwest of Cheydinhal by Lake Popped. Offer a black soul gem to get the Skull of Corruption. You must be at least level 5.
  • Sanguine Rose

  • Skeleton Key
    • Speak with Alves Uvenim in the Leyawiin Mages Guild for the location of the shrine. You can find the shrine by the road northeast of Leyawiin. Go to the shrine and you’ll get the Skeleton Key without an offering. You must be at least level 10.
  • Spell Breaker
    • The shrine is located on the south bank of the Silverfish River. Go to the shrine and you’ll get Spell Breaker without an offering. You must be at least level 10.
  • Ebony Blade
    • Speak with Luther Broad in the Elven Gardens District of the Imperial City (60 Disposition score required) or Ontus Vanin in the Talos Plaza District to have the shrine’s location marked on your map. You can find the shrine in the middle of the Heartlands (northeast of Imperial City). Offer nightshade to get the Ebony Blade. You must be at least level 15.
  • Savior’s Hide
    • Speak with Ontus Vanin in the Talos Plaza District to have the shrine’s location marked on your map. You can find the shrine in Nibenay Valley south of the Imperial City. Offer bear pelt or wolf pelt to get the Savior’s Hide. You must be at least level 17.

  • Oghma Infinium
    • The shrine is located in the Colovian Highlands, west of Bruma. You have to have collected the other 14 Daedric Artifacts, be at least level 20, and have started the Blood of the Daudra quest in order to obtain Oghma Infinium. Once you’ve met all three requirements, find someplace to sleep and the quest will begin. Complete the quest and you’ll get the Oghma Infinium.
Once you have any one of the Daedric Artifacts, take it to Martin in the Cloud Ruler Temple. You will have to give up the artifact that you hand over, so make sure that it’s one that you don’t mind losing. I highly suggest not handing over the Azura’s Star, as that’s the most useful for any class (it acts as a reusable soul gem). Once you’ve given Martin an artifact the achievement is yours.

closed an oblivion gate.jpg Destroyed the Great Gate (50G)
Destroyed the Grate Gate.
Closing the Great Gate is similar to closing any other Oblivion Gate, except you will be put into a larger area in Oblivion and you will only have 15 minutes to complete the quest. You will see four towers in the distance when you enter: three smaller towers and the main tower. To gain entrance to the main tower you first need to go into one of the two farthest smaller towers and throw a switch to lower the gate.

To start, follow the lava shore until you reach the Smoke and Scorch cave system. Follow the cave system into one of the two smaller towers and fight your way to the top and throw the switch. Go halfway down the tower and use the door to exit onto a bridge leading to the main tower. Run past as many enemies as you can to save time while making your way to the top of the main tower. When you reach the top, pick up the Great Sigil Stone to be transported back to Cyrodiil and the achievement is yours.

champion of cyrodiil.jpg Champion of Cyrodiil (100G)
Completed the Main Questline.
You’ll need to complete the final mission of the main storyline, which requires you to escort Martin to the Imperial City. Along the way you will have to fight off Dagon, who is immortal, and Daedra. As Martin is wearing robes he will take a lot of damage, so concentrate on killing enemies before they get to him and keeping him healthy with Convalescence spells. As I mentioned, Dagon is immortal, so you will not be able to kill him. You can stun him by dealing a very large amount of damage in a single hit, but it’s better to concentrate on healing Martin and killing the other enemies while quickly making your way to the Temple in the Imperial City. Once you enter the Temple things will play out automatically. Watch the final cinematic and the achievement is yours.

grand champion, arena.jpg Grand Champion, Arena (50G)

You must defeat the Gray Prince in battle for this achievement, and there are two ways to go about it: you may challenge him to a fight right away once becoming Champion, or you can complete a quest that will cause him to give up the fight and allow you to kill him. In either case, the fight is started by speaking with Ysabel Andronicus, the Battle Matron, who can be found standing across from Owyn. If you wish to complete the quest first, speak with the Gray Prince at any point before challenging him and he will start you on the quest “The Origin of the Gray Prince.”

If you decide to fight the Gray Prince without first completing the quest, ensure that you enter the battle with a lot of healing potions, as it can be very challenging. If you’ve completed the quest, just strike the Gray Prince down in the Arena. Once dead, take the Raiment of Valor from the Gray Prince’s body and give it to Ysabel.
