Eternal Sonata is a role-playing game developed by Tri-Crescendo and Namco Bandai. Released on September 17, 2007, the game takes place inside the mind of the famous composure, Chopin, as he drifts between life and death. In his dream state he meets a young girl with an awful destiny and a boy who fights to save her from her fate. Filled with vivid colors and an engaging story, Eternal Sonata is well worth the time to play through.

Eternal Sonata has 22 achievements, totaling up to the usual 100 gamer points. The game requires a minimum of two playthroughs to get all of the achievements. Each playthrough should take between 30 and 40 hours depending on your skill with RPGs and your ability to grasp the game’s changing mechanics. The difficulty of the achievements is not very high, but some require you to find a lot of hidden items, so you will need to scour the game world and pick them all up.

WARNING! There ARE spoilers in this guide as to story progression, boss names, and even character events. The game’s achievements are all considered secret achievements for that very reason, so read with caution!

Playthrough Guide
It is extremely helpful to follow a walkthrough if you are looking to complete the achievements as quickly as possible. This guide is very well done and will lead you to every score piece and EZI. The author does a great job directing you to everything, as well as pointing out places that will need to be hit on your second playthrough.

Playthrough 1
  • In this playthrough you want to complete EVERYTHING you can:
    • Collect all of the score pieces available in the first playthrough (see the “Score Piece Collector” achievement at the bottom for more information.
    • Complete the Mysterious Unison dungeon near the end of the game for the score pieces and achievement located within.
    • Watch for the clues (or follow the linked guide) to engage in all three available fights with Pirate Dolce in this playthrough.
  • Don’t worry about getting any of the EZIs in playthrough 1. Score pieces, party levels, and the Hero’s Crest carry over from the previous playthrough, but EZIs do not. Since there are a bunch that you cannot get until playthrough 2, it’s a waste of time to go for them in playthrough 1.
Playthrough 2
  • You’ll be playing the “Encore” for playthrough 2, which is a combination of New Game + and increased difficulty. Enemies are stronger, but you keep your party levels, score pieces, and the Hero’s Crest. To get 100% on the achievements you do not need to complete the game a second time (assuming you followed the guide and got everything available in playthrough 1). You will only need to reach the Xylophone Tower in Chapter 7.
  • The main thing that you should be concentrating on in playthrough 2 is collecting all of the EZI pieces for the “EZI Worshipper” achievement.
  • Mop up any Score Pieces you missed in playthrough 1 (or that weren’t available until playthrough 2).
  • Complete all 4 Pirate Dolce fights.
  • Follow the trade sequence through the game to get the glowing orb that unlocks the treasure at the top of Xylophone Tower.

raindrops.jpg Hero’s Gate (30G)
The Hero’s Gate has been opened.
After defeating the dragon at the end of the Double Reed Tower, DO NOT go through the purple gate that appears. This is a point of no return in the game. You get the Hero’s Crest as a reward for defeating the dragon, which opens the secret Mysterious Union secret dungeon. To get there, return to the Noise Dunes. Exit the screen on the right side, which will repeat the area. You’ll need to exit the right side of the screen a total of four times to reach the Mysterious Union. Rondo has been defeated in Unison.
Rondo is located on level 11 of the Mysterious Union. See “Claves’s Resurrection” for more information. Defeat Rondo and the achievement is yours.

raindrops.jpg Claves’s Resurrection (50G)
Unison has been completed and Claves has been resurrected.
You will need to find all seven soul shards in Mysterious Union to resurrect Claves.

  • Soul Shard 3: Level 3, in a chest.

Return to the vendor on level 6 when you have the full 99,999,999 gold to buy the shard.
  • Soul Shard 5: Level 8, in a chest.
  • Soul Shard 6: Level 11, defeat Rondo on the teleport to level 13.

Collect all seven soul shards and the achievement is yours.

raindrops.jpg Soul Released (79G)
The soul of Chord, the first mineral powder test subject, has been released.
You can only get this achievement during your second playthrough. After defeating Rondo at the end of Chapter 5 and gaining access to a teleport to Baroque City, return to Ritardando from the teleport with the Heart Pendant and head for the beach. Find the cave on the beach and speak with the man inside. Travel back to Baroque City and speak with the Former Servant in the eastern alley. After speaking with both people travel to Fort Fermata and open the locked door on the west side of the first area. Inside you will find a man who you’ll need to give your Heart Pendant to. Make sure it is not equipped, speak with the man, and the achievement is yours.

raindrops.jpg Xylophone’s Treasure (80G)
The hidden treasure in the secret room on the top floor of Xylophone Tower has been acquired.
You can only get this achievement during your second playthrough. After completing the achievement “Soul Released” you will begin a quest that requires you to make a total of 10 trades. Giving the Heart Pendant to the man in Fort Fermata is the first trade.
  • Heart Pendant for Pot (Fort Fermata)
  • Pot for Goat Stew (Tenuto Village)
  • Goat Stew for Coupon (Chorus Plains)
  • Coupon for Honey (Hanon Hills)
  • Honey for Agogo Droppings quest (Baroque Castle)
  • 20 photos of different beasts for Agogo Droppings (Agogo Village)

  • Odd Candy for Glass Ball (Hanon Hills)
  • Speak with the priest in Baroque City for directions to take the Glass Ball to Aria Temple (Baroque City)
  • Glass Ball of Orb (Aria Temple)
Once you’ve obtained the Orb, travel to the Xylophone Tower and go to the top floor. There is a door at the back that is opened by the Orb. Enter the room and open the treasure chest and the achievement is yours.

raindrops.jpg Pirate’s Treasure (80G)
The mystery behind the pirate’s treasure has been solved and the treasure has been acquired.
You can only get this achievement during your second playthrough. You need to fight the pirates four times and collecting the Pirate’s Paper from them, and only three fights are available in playthrough one (I highly suggest doing these three fights anyway for practice and the items you get from the fights).
  • Pirate’s Paper 1: you can’t miss this one as it is part of the story. Defeat Dolce on her ship.
  • Pirate’s Paper 2: in the Middle 3 section of the Wah Lava Cave you will come across a red dragon standing in front of a flower. Kill the dragon to reveal a X on the ground. Inspect the X and defeat Dolce a second time.
  • Pirate’s Paper 3: when you reach Ritardando, go into the catacombs under the church and inspect all six pillars. Next, head to the Inn in Baroque City and speak with the man sitting on the barrels in the cellar. Choose the option “Dolce’s skin is looking saggy” to start the fight. Defeat Dolce a third time.
  • Treasure: travel to the South Center area of Woodblock Grove. You’ll notice a hidden path and a small object that you can inspect. Enter 3214 when prompted and defeat Dolce a fourth (and final) time.
Defeat Dolce the fourth and you will receive the Wilderness and Seven Stars items and the achievement is yours.

raindrops.jpg Score Piece Collector (100G)
All the score pieces scattered throughout the world have been collected.
There are 32 score pieces in Eternal Sonata, 25 of which are available in the first playthrough of the game. It is highly recommended that you find them in the order listed below since the game does not name or number the score pieces in the menu. If you succeed to collect them all in order you will be able to start on the “EZI Worshipper” right at the beginning of playthrough 2 and will have an easier time following the guide.

Note: When you read “play score piece ##,” you will have to count down from the top of the list for the correct score piece. If you collected all of the pieces in order the numbers will be accurate.

Here are the locations of all the score pieces:

Chapter 2
2. Fort Fermata: in the north room after defeating the boss.
