Xbox 360 Relationship Between All Assassin's Creed Games

I haven't bought my copy of Assassin's Creed 3 yet, but it's on my list for next payday. In the meantime, I heard that this newest Assassin's Creed will not star Ezio, but will instead feature a new half-Indian/half-white man during the Revolution here in the United States. Is there any relationship between this new guy and Ezio? Is Desmond still the "present day" protagonist in Assassin's Creed 3, or is everyone entirely new and unrelated to previous AC titles?

The new guy is another of Desmond's ancestors, so you will still be playing as Desmond in the present day. Since the new, half Indian/half British character is another one of Desmond's ancestors, he is also related to Ezio, obviously, but I'm not sure how many generations span between them.
