You're basically getting compensated for doing good deeds to the community. When you level up, you can unlock a variety of items such as avatars, entries to regular sweepstakes, or even Xbox Live games. Hopefully it won't be very hard to level up, and similar to gamerscore. Hopefully, they'll add a reward where you can get the new currency as a compensation for doing good deeds as well.

"Leveling up in our program today might mean that you're a stellar Ambassador or a solid member Enforcement United beta program, or that you're a contributor to both," said Bobby Lamirande, program owner for Xbox Community Ambassadors. "In the future, leveling up might mean providing feedback that helps us improve our services, [providing] expertise in Xbox products or even creating game guides and helpful content in the Xbox.com forums."

It seems like a nice touch, especially since, to be honest, the community is a bit lacking in some aspects. Hopefully this serves as an adequate incentive to get more people active, posting, and generally helping out on forums, through the network, and such. This is actually a rather smart move on Microsoft's part, as there are bound to be gamers obsessed with the prospect of this sort of metagame that directly benefits them in real life. I daresay I will be caught up in the grind, too, especially if it means we can get a few free games should we work hard enough. It beats spending upwards of $60 (maybe more once the system releases) on a game out of your own pocket.

Definitely a good thing, because there will always be those type of people who will always want to help if they get some good recognition back for their effort. And most of people always like to be at the top of their game, so when you introduce stuff like loot and XP, people will go crazy about their stats.
