Gaming site Polygon reported on Monday that 2K Sports was thinking about getting out of the MLB business and was able to confirm the news last night. In a statement, a representative from 2K Sports said that the company has "decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014." The representative went on to reassure fans that the NBA 2K franchise, which is the top-selling basketball franchise in the industry, will live on.

The news is very bad news for Xbox owners, however. With 2K Sports now out of the picture, Sony is the only publisher licensing access to MLB teams and players. That means Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners will not have a true baseball simulation to play, as of this writing. It's not clear whether other developers will jump to get the MLB licensing deal.

This is a blow for Xbox owners looking forward to the yearly 2K baseball game. 2K has also removed all of the MLB titles from Steam, Xbox Live Marketplace, deleted all mention of their MLB titles from their website and Facebook pages, the whole Interwebs it seems (just kidding about that last part). So Sony still has MLB The Show and we have nothing at the moment. Although this is a blow for you baseball fans, I'm betting that another publisher will be working on a deal with the MLB sooner than later, as this is a decent sized segment that will be lacking for the 360/Xbox One.

Kind of strange that they deleted everything from, well, everywhere. Kind of makes it seem like it may have been a bad break up? If not, why would they take all mention of anything MLB related down?

Any guesses as to who might go after making a deal with the MLB to develop a baseball game?
