Blue Dragon is a role-playing game released for the xBox 360 on August 28, 2007. Developed by Mistwalker and Artoon, the game follows a group of five friends as they traverse the world to defeat the evil ruler of Grand Kingdom: Nene. The turn-based combat system and exploration focus will be familiar to fans of older Final Fantasy games. Blue Dragon spans three discs on the xBox 360, but this is more due to the lack of compression technologies than actual game length. The game itself is approximately 40 hours in length for a straight playthrough.

Blue Dragon has 43 achievements equaling up to the usual 1000 gamer points. While none of the achievements are specifically difficult, most of them will require a lot of grinding and time dedication, as well as practice and reloading saves. To complete everything that the game has to offer you can expect to invest 80+ hours into it.

NOTE: The only spoilers present in this guide are in the form of monster/boss names, so read cautiously if knowing that information is a problem for you. All of the story achievements are at the bottom of the guide and wrapped in spoiler tags, so there shouldn’t be any major spoiler easily seen.

100% of Achievements Tips
  • If you’re not used to playing JRPG games, or if you’re mainly playing this one for achievements and story (and not so much for challenge) you can play on the easiest difficulty and still be eligible for all the achievements in one playthrough.
  • You can do everything in one playthrough. With that being said, I suggest you save often and NEVER OVERWRITE your save files. Yes, you are going to have a ton of them by the time you finish, but you’ll be grateful for those extra saves if you realize that you missed something, or if you just want to be able to replay the mini-games later to get the “…Perfect” achievements.
  • Read through the guides for Complete Monster Record and Complete Item Record before even beginning the game (I’ve listed them first in the guide). There are some monsters and items that are missable, and those guides include anything missable.
  • The “point of no return” is mentioned a few times in this guide. It is located after killing:
Ultimate Szabo in the Cauldron Chamber
. From there you can use the warp device to go back and finish up your achievements

Blue Dragon Achievements

completed monster record.jpg Completed Monster Record (25G)
Fill up the Monster Record by defeating every monster.
There are 290 enemies in the game, and you will need to KILL every one of them, not just encounter them. This is especially difficult since some monsters will split or morph into different monsters, and you must kill both forms. This is one place that saving often in multiple files will really help you, since you can reload if an enemy morphs before you can kill its original version.

There are about 30 missable monsters in the game. Here they are broken down by disc:
Disc 1
  • Ancient Hospital Ruins
    • Icefire Wolf Ghost – you must kill it before it splits apart for it to be added.
  • Destroyed Talta Village
    • Skeleton Captain
  • Flying Fortress
    • Hover Patroller and Double Axe
    • Machine Gun Crab (appears with the Double Axe party).
    • Winking Medic and Tailgunner Robo-Scorpion – keep fighting the Flying Mecha Robo monster parties until you’ve defeated one of each.
Disc 2
  • Paches Town Underground
    • Skeleton General – allow the Scything Skull Spider boss to summon one during the battle.
  • Nene’s Fortress
    • Assassin Robot, Balloon Bomber, Enforcer Robot, Glowering Imp Trap, Horned-Viper Trident, Imposter Eye, Ninja Ghost, Patchwork Puppet, Red-Mask Robot, Standard Defender, Steel-Crusher Leopard, Stone Giant, Versatile Mecha Robo, and Wandering Prophet
    • Intercept Dynadrone – allow a Versatile Mecha Robo to summon one.
    • Servant Mecha Robo A and Servant Mecha Robo B – kill one of each during the boss battle at the end of the 5th floor.
Disc 3
  • Southern Lal Mountains
    • Gale Wolf Ghost and Stone Wolf Ghost – allow the Rocking Wolf Ghost to split into these two enemies.
  • Primitive Cube
    • Wandering Sage, Cursed Spine Ghost, and Sanguine Slasher – The Wandering Sage summons the Cursed Spine Ghost and Sanguine Slasher, make sure you kill all three at some point before opening the chest the Wandering Sage is guarding.

When you reach the point of no return you should already have all of the above monsters. If you do, check out this guide for the locations of any monsters that you’ve missed. If you missed any of the monsters listed above you will need to replay the game to get the achievement (or load up one of your earlier saves before the location of the monster you missed and play from that point). The final boss does not count towards this achievement, so you will get it once you’ve killed the rest of the game’s enemies.

Once you’ve collected all 290 monsters in the bestiary the achievement is yours!

completed monster record.jpg Completed Item Record (25G)
Fill up the Item Record.
There are 380 items available in Blue Dragon, and you must collect every single one of them. I’ve included a checklist at the end of this guide, so use that as you work your way through the game. This guide will help you to fill in any items that you missed. There are a few items that are missable, they are listed here:

  • Super Metal Bangle – buy this in the Baroy Town Gate Room from Robot 88 before exiting the Ancient Factory and entering the Wire Highlands.
  • Super Metal Ring – buy this in the Baroy Town Gate Room from Robot 88 before exiting the Ancient Factory and entering the Wire Highlands.
  • Nene’s Ring – steal this from the final form of Mecha General Szabo.
  • Special Service Ticket – get this by talking to the Master or the Jibral Soldier at the end of Disc 1.
  • Water Earring – get this by talking to Meg in Café Jibral at the start of Disc 2 before leaving the town for the first time.
  • Shield Earring – get this by talking to Jibral in Café Jibral at the start of Disc 2 before leaving the town for the first time.
  • Nene’s Earring – steal this from Phantom Dragon (use the steal command).
  • Stylish Vase – get this by talking to Lokurobeh in the Vase Workshop of Jibral Castle at the start of Disc 2. It must be obtained before entering the Laser Zone.

The rest of the items are obtainable at any time, though it’s a good idea to look through the guide linked above before playing through to get them in the most efficient manner. The checklist at the end of this guide lists the items in alphabetical order, not the order they appear in the game.

Collect all 380 items and the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg Back Attack (5G)
Complete a Back Attack.
Just attack a creature from behind. If you level up and return to an earlier area the enemies will usually flee from you, so you can run up and hit them from behind. An alternate method is to use the Monk’s “Repel Aura” skill. Perform one back attack and the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg 100 Back Attacks (30G)
Complete 100 Back Attacks.
You need to attack 100 creatures from behind this time, but it shouldn’t be too difficult. There are plenty of areas in the game that allow for easy back attacks, so just aim to get one with every battle and you’ll eventually succeed in 100 of them. Perform all 100 back attacks and the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg Multi-Monster Encounter (5G)
Complete a Multi-Monster Encounter.
You’ll need to get two or more monsters in a single encounter circle to trigger a multi-monster encounter. You’ll likely encounter a couple of these naturally throughout the game, so don’t worry too much about orchestrating one. Simply complete the multi-monster battle and the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg 10+ Monsters in an Encounter (30G)
Win a Multi-Monster Encounter against at least 10 enemies.
You’ll need to get 10 or more monsters in a single encounter circle to trigger this multi-monster encounter, and the hardest part about this is finding enough monsters close enough together to facilitate this.

Head to the Giant Snow Fields on Disc 3 and make your way to the top left corner of the map. You’ll see a robot with a machine going around the crater there that’s spawning more robots. Run around the crater until you have a large group around you and initiate the battle. It’s possible to get upwards of 15 monsters in a single encounter here, so getting 10 shouldn’t be too much trouble. You can check your battle record to see what the largest multi-monster encounter you’ve had is. Finish the battle against 10 enemies and the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg 100 Monster Fights (30G)
Make Monster Fights happen 100 times.
A monster fight is not a battle between you and a monster, but rather a battle between two monsters. The monster’s names will appear in yellow when inside the encounter circle if a monster battle will occur. For the achievement you do not need to complete the battle, so when you find a pair of enemies that will fight, initiate the battle and flee, then initiate the battle again. It should take you under an hour to grind this achievement out. If you wait until you reach the point of no return you can look at your battle report and find out how many have occurred throughout the game and simply grind out the rest.

If you’re having trouble finding a place to do this, head towards Jibral and find a Chief Rolling Ripper and a Cockatrice, lure them into the encounter circle, and initiate the battle. Use the flee and repeat tactic above to grind out as many monster fights as you need. Initiate 100 monster fights and the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg Beat King Poo (30)
Find and defeat the rare monster King Poo.
Head for the Ancient Ruins Caverns, north-east of Talta, on Disc 3. When you enter the Ancient Ruins Caverns you’ll need to defeat Jumbo Poo. Grab the Ancient Warrior’s Ring from the chest and Corrosive Poo will appear. Defeat Corrosive Poo and exit the cave. King Poo will appear in the center of the area.

Make sure your party is above level 80 and everyone has a few level 99 shadows. King Poo is weak to Water, so make sure your party uses lots of Water based attacks. Keep your party healthy and you should be able to win the fight. King Poo is the hardest enemy in the game, so don’t be surprised if it takes you a couple of tries to defeat it. Once you down King Poo the achievement is yours.

back attack.jpg Beat Golden Poo Snake (30G)
Find and defeat the rare monster Golden Poo Snake.
Head for the Southern Deserted Island, on the southern edge of the world, on Disc 3. You will need a Mechat to reach it. Equip the Poo Bracelet and the Shoes of Hermes, then get stink on by using fresh garlic or the Dog Collar accessory (or another item that grants stink).

The easiest way to defeat the Golden Poo Snake is with the Poo Bracelet (from a blue barrier chest in Jibral castle near the gate). The Poo Bracelet gives you a chance to get an instant kill on Golden Poo Snake and the Shoes of Hermes allow you the first strike. Kill Golden Poo Snake and the achievement is yours.

Note: This enemy is a great way to grind for money and SP, so consider spending some time killing them after getting the Poo Bracelet.

beat gold mecha robo.jpg Beat Gold Mecha Robo (30G)
Find and defeat the rare monster Gold Mecha Robo.
You can find the Gold Mecha Robo in the Ancient Factory near the black barrier on Disc 3. Gold Mecha Robo only appears if you have both the Final War Necklace and the Ultimate Weapon Bracelet.

Gold Mecha Robo has no weaknesses and a total of 18,000 health. Make sure that your party is very well developed, at least level 85. If you were able to defeat King Poo you should be able to defeat Gold Mecha Robo, but be warned that Gold Mecha Robo is just as powerful. Make sure your party stays healthy, as Gold Mecha Robo attacks quickly and can deal a LOT of damage. Defeat Gold Mecha Robo and the achievement is yours.

dragon- max one class.jpg Maxed Out All Character Levels (50G)
Make all your characters level 99.
You’ll need to max out every character for this, which takes a lot of grinding for SP. This is by far the longest achievement, but by getting this you will also get the other 10 leveling achievements, and when combined with this one you’ll have 450 of the 1000 possible gamer points in Blue Dragon. Here are some tips for making this as easy as possible:

Items:
You can find 5 items that can boost your SP gain, and you’ll want all of them so that you can equip one on each party member. There are 4 Black Belts and 1 Eye Patch.

  • Black Belts
    • Found in a chest in the Ancient Ruins Forest.
    • Found in a chest in the Mural Village, behind the Red Barrier.
    • Exchange 1200 Nothings with the Nothing Man in Jibral.
    • Steel one from King Poo Snake or Yeet Yeet.
  • Eye Patch
    • Find the Autograph Manuscript that in the desert area, then exchange it with the traveler in the Lal Mountain Camp on Disc 3.

Grind Locations:
There are two great ways to grind the SP after finding the enemies. One involves actively fighting an enemy over and over, the other involves activating Field Barrier 3 and standing in a specific location.
  • Fighting Golden Poo Snake
    • Southern Deserted Island
    • If you have the Poo Bracelet and Shoes of Hermes you can kill the Golden Poo Snake in one hit.
    • Make sure to get stink on by using either the Dog Collar accessory or Fresh Garlic (or another item that grants Stink).
    • If no Golden Poo Snakes appear on the island, either save and reload or jump on the Mechat, fly into the air, and land. The Golden Poo Snkaes should reappear.
    • Each fight nets around 1000 exp, 10 sp, and anywhere from 0 to 25,000 gold.
  • Field Barrier 3
    • You’ll need to have the Barrier Class on someone leveled up to 50 to unlock Field Barrier 3.
    • Warp to the Laser Field and go north until you see a chest in a small alcove with purple mole enemies spawning in front of it.
    • Activate Field Barrier 3 and stand in front of the chest. Every time one of the enemies spawns (which is constant in this spot) it will be killed by the Field Barrier and will give you SP (you will not earn money or items though).
    • You can leave the game running while you do other things if you’d like, just note that the Field Barrier uses 1 MP on every kill, so be sure to check on the game occasionally to refill your character’s MP.
    • Each killed enemy grants 2 SP, so it will take a long time, but this method requires almost no interaction from on your part.

Whichever method you choose to use, expect to spend quite a few hours killing enemies to max everyone out. Just remember not to use any Heart enhancements after you hit level 90. You can technically use them up to level 98, but there have been reported glitches of them disabling the achievement if used at different times after level 90, so to be safe use them all between levels 60 and 90. Max out every character and the achievement is yours!

got ultimate wepaon bracelet.jpg Got Ultimate Weapon Bracelet (10G)
Find and obtain the rare Ultimate Weapon Bracelet.
You’ll need to find three parts to obtain the Ultimate Weapon Bracelet: Mystery Part Alpha, Mystery Part Beta, and Mystery Part Gamma.

  • Mystery Part Alpha is obtained automatically in Mural Town.
  • Mystery Part Beta is obtained in the Ancient Factory. Go to the top of the slope to find Double Lancer stone statues. The statues will come to life one by one. Defeat them all to reveal the chest containing Mystery Part Beta.
  • Mystery Part Gamma is obtained in Upper Mecha Base, which can be found on Disc 3 (it’s the yellow plus sign all the way in the south). The chest containing Mystery Part Gamma is located by the lift on the first floor.

Once you’ve collected all three parts you can exchange them with the research officer in the research lab area of Jibral Castle.

got ultimate wepaon bracelet.jpg Got Final War Necklace (10G)

Talk to Elder Baum in Kelaso Village after killing Moody Dragon before going after the other 4.

  • Phantom Dragon – desert area, where the glass spires are.
    • Absorbs all damage from every type of attack except for Wind, so prepare accordingly.

    • Uses a strong offense, but has little defense. Uses Water and Corporeal attacks.
    • Be around level 80 for an easier win.

Once you’ve defeated all five dragons and collected the Dragon Fangs from the chests that appear, head to Kelaso Village and talk to Elder Baum. He will take the five Dragon Fangs and give you the Dragon Bracelet.

completed monster record.jpg Got 1,000,000 Gold (25G)
Save your Gold: You need 1,000,000!
The best way to go about this is to earn the gold by fight Golden Poo Snakes. See the guide for “Maxed Out All Character Levels” for details on grinding Golden Poo Snakes. The enemy drops anywhere from 0 to 25,000 gold, more if you equip the Crown of the King’s Ghost, and offers great SP so you can work on this and the max level achievements at the same time. You’ll need the full 1,000,000 gold in your inventory at one time, so just keep fighting the Golden Poo Snakes until you get the achievement.

got ultimate wepaon bracelet.jpg Equipped All Mechat Parts (10G)
You got all of the mechat part types and completed all enhancements.
You get the Mechat on Disk 3, and when you do yellow, orange, and blue symbols will be added to your map. The yellow and orange symbols mark the locations of the 9 parts that you will need to find, and the blue symbol marks the location that you go to equip the parts to the Mechat. The 9 parts are found here:

  • Sea Cube: defeat the Sea Dragon to obtain the Laser Barrier Parts, along with the Black Device needed to unlock black barriers that guard some of the other parts.
  • Lal Mountains Camp: unlock the black barrier and grab the Missile Upgrade Parts B from the chest.
  • Kelaso Village: use the Black Device to unlock the barrier and get the Coating Parts B.
  • Eastern Deserted Island: defeat the Ghost Yeet that appears to get the Heatsink Parts.
  • Aurora Ruins: defeat the Stonesaurus then talk to Torpio to get Lock On Upgrade Parts A.
  • Exile Forest Caverns: after saving Gulu Gulu, use the Black Device on the chest near the far wall to get the Lock On Upgrade Parts B.
  • Ancient Ruins Forest: defeat Land Shark C at the end of the dungeon and open the chest for Weapon Parts.
  • Upper Mecha Base: open the chest before the lift on floor 5 for the Coating Part A.
    • NOTE: This is the location of a Mechat Shooting Stage, see the guide for “Mechat Shooting Stage 2: Perfect” for details.
  • Mecha Base: open the chest before the lift on floor 5 for Missile Upgrade Part A.

Once you’ve obtained all 9 parts, head to the blue symbol on your map to add all the parts to the Mechat. Once you’ve added all 9 the achievement is yours.

escaped more than 50 times.jpg Ambushed More Than 50 Times (0G)
You were ambushed more than 50 times.
Allow enemies to ambush you by turning your back on them 50 times and the achievement (as well as a whopping 0 gamer points!) is yours.

Story Achievements
NOTE: The following achievements contain story and boss name spoilers, read with caution.
NOTE: Save frequently when approaching the areas with the following story achievements so that if something goes wrong you can reload and retry them.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Closed Flying Fortress Door (5G)
You closed the Flying Fortress door without fighting the mecha robos.
After defeating the Land Shark at the beginning of the game and escaping from the Underground Ruins you will be taken aboard a ship. Avoid the mecha robos that appear and repeatedly press the A button by the doors to close them. Close the doors without fighting the mecha robos and the achievement is yours.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Pulled in the Flying Fortress (5G)
You helped pull in the Flying Fortress without angering the Gorgo giants.
After looking around Jibral and heading to bed you will awoken in the night to fight the Tsunami. Run to the roof of the castle to trigger the event. Prepare to follow screen prompts with button presses. You’ll need to do this perfectly to get the achievement, so save before you start so that you can retry if you miss something. Complete the event without the giants waving their arms around and the achievement is yours.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Rescued Kluke (5G)
You rescued Kluke without falling.
After leaving Paches Town you will head towards a crater. Save when you reach an area where the ground turns from snow to dirt! A cutscene begins upon entering the crater. When you run up the Giant Robot’s arm be ready to press A. When you run across the Giant Robot’s body be ready to press A again. If you fail either just reload and try again. Get both timed prompts on the same try and the achievement is yours.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Got to Nene Before Bomb Went Off (5G)
You arrived at Nene’s location before the bomb went off.
You will have one hour to make it through Nene’s Fortress at the end of Disc 2. If you don’t mind repeating the dungeon, I suggest running through the entire thing and avoiding all of the encounters that you can and skipping the treasure chests. Beat the boss and get the achievement, then reload and play through the dungeon carefully since it does contain some missable monsters that you’ll need to add for the “Complete Monster Record” (see that achievement for details). It is possible to get through the entire dungeon with the encounters, but simply running through and then reloading a save right before the dungeon is the most definitive way to get the achievement.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Escaped from Squashtrich (5G)
You escaped without being stomped by the Squashtrich.
This event occurs at the top of Nene’s Fortress. I suggest going for this during your speed run of the previous achievement, that way you don’t have to worry about getting the missable monsters between the 5th floor save point and the event if you need to restart. You will need to keep Shu from being damaged AT ALL by the big robotic ostrich-like machine. You will be mashing the X button this time, so be prepared. When the battle options pop up select “Flee” and the achievement is yours.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Saved Kluke from Choking (5G)
You saved Kluke from being choked by Nene’s collar.
This even occurs when you reach the Throne Room on level 5 of Nene’s Ship. Use the save point at the beginning of level 5 as a restart point if needed. You’ll need to match button presses, and this time the analog stick is thrown into the mix. Complete the sequence and the achievement is yours.

closed flying fortress door.jpg Summoned Shu’s Shadow (5G)
You summoned Shu’s Shadow.
Early in Disc 3 you will reach a town called Devour not long after Kluke collapses. Head to the Inn to visit her, then find a save point before heading to the cliffs. Summon your shadow and be ready for a VERY FAST button sequence. It’s just the A button, but you will need to mash it very quickly. Reload your save and try again if you have issues. Succeed the event and the achievement is yours.

wagon escort- perfect.jpg Wagon Escort: Perfect (30G)
While escorting the wagon, make sure that it takes no damage.
After leaving Talta Village and heading off to find the villagers you will come to an open area (after the mountain pass). Save your game so that you have a restart point and run into the open to begin the event. The encounters are all fixed, so you can learn where and when things pop up. There are seven different encounters during the event:

- Before the second corner
- After the second corner
- Before the first chest
- While you are removing the last boulder in the first boulder area
- First corner after the boulders
- In the second boulder section
- After removing the last boulder in the second boulder section

You must get through the entire area without the wagon taking ANY damage. If the wagon does take damage just reload and try again. Once you’ve gotten through perfectly the achievement is yours.

wagon escort- perfect.jpg Moon Laser: Perfect (30G)
You got a bonus for completing the Moon Laser perfectly.
You’ll reach this event on the third floor of Nene’s Fortress. Make sure that you save your game at the beginning of the floor so that you have a place to restart from. The two rules for this achievement are:

- Do not take any damage
- Never deal 0 damage to the moon

While that sounds easy the event can be frustrating. Be patient and only fire at the moon that is charging a shot to fire at you. It will take a lot of practice and probably a few attempts, but keep at it and you’ll eventually get through. Get through perfectly and the achievement is yours.

wagon escort- perfect.jpg Mechat Shooting Stage 1: Perfect (30G)
Clear Mechat Shooting with no damage.
You have to do this in normal mode for the achievement. Make sure to save before attempting this, as it can take some practice to get used to the controls of the mini game and learn how long you can use the machine gun. The biggest thing to keep in mind is to use the machine gun on the missiles without allowing it to overheat. Use your missiles on Nene as much as possible and on the missiles when your machine gun is cooling down. Complete the event without taking any damage and the achievement is yours.

wagon escort- perfect.jpg Mechat Shooting Stage 2: Perfect (30G)
You destroyed all the mechat base machine guns in Mechat Shooting Stage 2.
After getting your Mechat on Disc 3, save your game and fly to the yellow marker that is the furthest south. This is the Upper Mecha Base, and when you approach in the Mechat you will be prompted to press A to begin the event. There are two sections in the base, and you’ll have plenty of time to destroy all of the guns as long as you don’t mess around while doing so. The amount of damage you take doesn’t matter here, so just take out the guns as quick as you can. Get them all and the achievement is yours.

wagon escort- perfect.jpg Mechat Shooting Stage 3: Perfect (30G)
You cleared Mechat Shooting Stage 3 with no damage.
You should definitely try to fully upgrade the Mechat before attempting this as the upgrades help immeasurably. When you decide to try it, save your game and fly to the northwest area of the map. You’ll find a massive crater in the ground (marked by a purple symbol on your map). You’ll need to destroy the Land Shark here without taking ANY damage.

The fight occurs in two parts, with the second being more difficult than the first. The main thing is to make sure to knock the rockets out of the sky as the Land Shark fires them at you and avoid his attacks. When you are close to defeating it be sure to take out any missiles in the air BEFORE killing the Land Shark. The game locks as soon as you land the killing blow, and if there are missiles in the air they will damage you and keep you from completing this achievement. Complete the fight without taking damage and the achievement is yours.
