Hey guys,

My question to everyone is, "Are you an achievement hunter?"

By that I mean, do you go out of your way when you're playing Xbox games in order to try to earn achievements? How many achievement points do you currently have?

Or do you not care for achievements?

I know I've tried to get achievements for every game I've owned. At one point I was obsessed with achievement hunting- probably not the most healthy thing to do.

yup, right now I'm over 82,000 mostly though it's through competition with my friends (cousin mostly, who currently sits at 94,000) unfortunately with renting games no longer a option where I live i don't earn as many so I've turned to my backlog of games.

On the topic of it not being healthy I think it's completely healthy. Humans love competition and I think people that dedicate so much time are no different to people who dedicate their time to say running a marathon or any other activity.

I completely agree with you that competition was good. I wasn't competing with anyone though! I turned to video games to feel some sort of accomplishment in my life. That can be good in small doses, but I don't think it is completely healthy to have that be a long term thing.

in a way you're competing with yourself to see how good you truly are, that's why they're called achievements cause it makes you feel like you achieved something. The little bing and what not is somewhat of an audible stimulant when you do it for so long and that's why I prefer them over ps3's trophies. Really it's psychological warfare on microsoft's part haha. Then again I may be a tad bit biased when it comes to this subject

I never replay games just for achievements, I like getting them while playing the game because I think it tests your skill on how effectively you can get achievements without replaying it. I'm sure everyone has had that one week where all they did was replay games for achievements, including me. It wasn't particularly on the Xbox; it was on Steam which, in my opinion, is pretty similar to the Xbox 360 achievement system. Anyways, I replayed the game until I got 100% achievements and I realized why I did it. There was no benefit from doing it, and I didn't really enjoy replaying the game a second time. After that experience, I stopped trying to get achievements, so I casually play games now instead of looking up and down for achievements.

Yes, i do try to collect all the achievements for each game i get, but that doesn't change the games i purchase. It's not because it has easy achievements or hard achievements, i take that as a challenge and i enjoy it. The last game i got all the achievements was Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arise, really fun game to get all of them, recommend it. Now i am waiting for Killer is Dead to come out.

Sure, I like to get as many achievements as possible from a game - though I try to get most of them in one run. That said I don't mind having to do replays since it helps get the most out of the game and it means I bother with things I might not have otherwise.

I go and get all achievements for games I really like, as long as they aren't a chore. Ones for collecting stupid useless crap, like the flags in the first Assassin's Creed, are ones I ignore because they're a waste of time.

I am still really proud of my 100% completion of Dark Souls and Metal Gear Rising.

As I often explain, I consider achievements "metagame sidequests". Like RPGs that give you pointless collection sidequests just because, you don't have to do them, and even if you do for the fun of it, all you get is a pat on the back. I think of achievements the same way. I like to challenge myself to get as many as I can on a single playthrough, but I don't go out of my way to get every last one. I certainly don't play games explicitly to boost my score.

Still, 58 retail games 100% completed, mostly RPGs.:p

Looks like Microsoft's strategy works! Getting players to go back to through the game for a second, or even third time, in order for them to earn achievements. Such a simple yet smart idea.

Have anyone ever done anything crazy just to get an achievement?

Once, I let me friend have my Xbox Live username and password so he could help me with an achievement I was struggling with. Maybe not the most "crazy" thing.

I'm not sure how many points I currently have. However, I do really enjoy trying to get 100% completion, including all of the achievements.
I don't cry if I don't get an achievement, but I will try to make sure I get it on my next play through.

I am definitely an achievement hunter. I'm one of those people who care about their gamerscore. Every game I play, I don't stop playing it until I have every listed achievement complete. Even though I absolutely hate the game, I persevere though it. It's a bad habit that I really wish to break.

I was until my wife made me get a job! Thought I would hit the 100g mark a few years ago. But I do go out of my way to get them.

I have to admit, I do like seeing the achievement things there, as much as I might not often admit it.

Not at all, I think achievements are kind of stupid. I feel it just kind of takes away from the real game expierence when you are focusing on achievements that only really mean something outside of the game.

How does completing "Mission 1"(example) on the hardest difficulty take away from the real game experience and means something non-game related. I understand that we have different opinions but....There are some that I feel are too cumbersome like retrieving all intel but if I need to kill someone with a knife instead of a rifle to get an achievement I'll do it no problem.

I used to go out of my way to get achievements, One of my friends and I fought to have more achievement points the first couple years the system was out. Then I realized I was spending way too much time going for achievements and not even time actually playing the parts of the game I wanted to play. I still look at them and see what they are. Some of them are still fun to go for, but some of them just take too much time. I honestly think it's more fun as well when they just pop up out of no where and say hey you did something awesome!

I like to go for achievements.
However I dislike the multiplayer achievements, because some of them are coop and if there aren't any other players then it is pretty hard to get them.
Anyway I will probably call myself an achievement hunter at one point. Just not as much as many others.

Can't say I usually hunt down acheivements or directly attempt to get them myself, but if I see it's an easy one then I might end up deciding to get it. Usually I just play a game until I don't feel like doing so anymore and then move on to the next game whether I've gotten all the achievements or not.

I'm not into the whole achievement thing at all. I tend to focus on having fun and beating the game. I don't care about all the extraneous accomplishments that are involved in most games. That's for really bored kids, in my opinion. I want to see how the story develops, what the graphics look like throughout the entire game and what happens at the end, that's it.
