Communication issue with other Xbox users

My son has an Xbox X. When playing Fortnite, he can communicate (headset) with friends on other platforms but not friends who are playing on Xbox. Any help with this?

Check Fortnite's Voice Chat Settings

Sometimes Fortnite turns things off by default.

• Open Fortnite, go to Settings (the gear icon).
• Go to the Audio tab (looks like a speaker).
• Make sure these are set:
  
  • Voice Chat: On
  • Voice Chat Method: Open Mic (unless he prefers push-to-talk)
  • Voice Channel: Party or Game — try switching this if it’s not working
• Then restart the game to be safe
