Defense Grid 2, the successfully crowdfunded sequel to strategy-meets-tower defense game Defense Grid: The Awakening, will release to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems, developer Hidden Path Entertainment told Polygon.

In Defense Grid 2, players will be tasked to protect the power cores of their military bases, which will feature a mix of both familiar and new locations as well as new enemy alien types. The game will also include competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes and will support player-created content.

Well I never played the original, but I did hear some good things so who knows, this could be a fun little time waster. Either way it's nice to see more and more indie developers coming to the XB1 all the time. Does this game interest any of you? Have you please the original?

Not bad, Same here, I haven't played the original but having played some tower defense games I think the experience will be the same.

Looks like I get to play one of those tower defense games again. Last time I played tower defense was with Warcraft. Well I don't mind getting this game, because there is a possibility that I might get addicted again to the game.

I remember getting so into Tower Defense that I forgot to go to work. I understand how addicting the game can be. Haha. Might have to hold off on this.

All this tower defense stuff is something that I want to stay out of. I'm not really into it to be honest.

I know the feeling. It's really quite addicting even if the game is so simple. I've got quite a few phone versions of those tower defense games.

I don't really like tower defense games, I really get bored with those types. I'm skipping this game.

Defense grid the awakening was probably one of the best tower defense games that came out on the pc. It was so well done and gameplay was great. I highly recommend anyone who remotely likes any kind of tower defense game you play the original. I for one cant wait for this on the xbox one. Although if its also on the pc, i will be getting that version. Glad to see it coming to next gen though. For all those people who love tower defense games, believe me they know about defense grid....

Any idea on release date?

Really? This was on PC? I didn't know. Well I looked it up online, it says that it doesn't have an exact month but they plan on releasing it this year.

Aliens Are Invading Again, Protect Your Power Cores

On March 6, 2014, independent video game developer Hidden Path Entertainment, and 505 Games, a global publisher of video games, today announced a partnership to bring the highly anticipated Defense Grid 2 (DG2) to console platforms.

The tower defense game, which has been announced for a PC release later this year, will also be available to console players on the Xbox Live online entertainment network from Microsoft for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PlayStation® Network for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system.

”505 Games has partnered with us at Hidden Path and is providing a great opportunity for next-generation console players to experience our vision of the definitive tower defense experience. We’re so excited to work on a game we love and bring it to additional platforms with such a like-minded publishing partner,” said Jeff Pobst, project lead for DG2.

“Our goal at 505 is to be a publishing partner that lets studios retain their creative independence and that is exactly how we intend to partner with Hidden Path in order to bring DG2 to market,” said Ian Howe, president, 505 Games. “Hidden Path is the perfect partner, they are experienced industry veterans developing a top-quality tower defense game that we both cannot wait to get into gamers’ hands.”

On July 10, 2012 Hidden Path Entertainment launched its Kickstarter Campaign to fund new content for its highly acclaimed tower defense game, Defense Grid – The Awakening, and potentially a sequel for the loved title. Thanks to over 6,200 backers Hidden Path was able to release the expansion pack Defense Grid: Containment in January 2013.

Hidden Path Entertainment has been listening to the community and will continue to do so throughout the development process making sure players have a voice during the making of the game. Be sure to sign up on the forums if you haven’t done so already (http://www.hiddenpath.com/forum/register.php). On the forums gamers will be given the latest DG2 news, have the opportunity to ask questions of the development team, and provide feedback about the game.

Gamers will battle to protect their power cores on multiple locations throughout DG2. They’ll have new and familiar towers at their disposal as they beat back both new and established threats. Hidden Path Entertainment is happy to announce the addition of both cooperative and competitive multiplayer game modes as well as user created content support.

DG2 is expected to release in 2014.
