Ever tried to use a game maker for PC?

I've tried using RPG maker for PC before and I managed to make a short game out of it. It's cool to be able to make your own game and let others play it. RPG Maker allows you to make a 2D RPG game compete with text, ability to make cutscenes, add NPCs and many more. What software that allows you to make games have you tried?

Oh, the old days of the RPG MAKES XP.
I wish i had my old project which i carefully made for 2 months before losing it in a HDD crash. So much work, disappeared like that...

Still, a cool tool to play around, even if you use the default templates. Might get the new version on steam if they ever decide to drop the price.

I feel for you man. All your hard work and well thought out ideas all go down the drain because of a crash. That's just awful. It is very discouraging if you lose something that you worked so hard on. It's very hard to start all over again.

No but it's something I'd consider getting in to, I could be wrong but i think steam has a free RPG maker.
