Final Fantasy 13-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy 13 by Square Enix. Released on December 15, 2011, the game follows Lightning’s sister, Serah and her new friend Noel as they battle across time to fix the time-line and save the world. The game takes place mostly in areas familiar to anyone who played through Final Fantasy 13, though each area is slightly different from its original appearance. The battle system is nearly identical to that of Final Fantasy 13, with a few minor changes (you can now switch the leader in the middle of battle, allowing you unleash both character’s ultimate attacks). Instead of a third party member, Final Fantasy 13-2 allows you to tame monsters and include them in your paradigm deck. The Crystarium is back, but it is simultaneously simpler and more complex in this iteration.

Final Fantasy 13-2 includes 31 achievements worth a total of 1000 gamer points. The achievements are mostly simple, but there are a few that will require a great deal of game time. The main story will take about 20 hours to complete, assuming you don’t get sidetracked (which is very easy to do). To complete the entire game with all of the trophies, expect to invest upwards of 60 hours into it. Thankfully the game is interesting enough to make this fun, though some of the quests will have you pulling your hair out by the end (the “Academic Rank: Monster Professor” quest comes to mind). While a great deal of patience and dedication is required for many of the achievements, the actual difficulty of them is fairly moderate.

Spoilers have been kept to an absolute minimum, but some are present by necessity. No story spoilers are included, but item and monster names are present where needed, so please use caution when reading if you have not completed the game’s main story yet.

Other Achievements

Scarlet Medal.jpg Scarlet Medal (14G)
Defeated a powerful enemy with graceful poise.
In Bresha Ruins (005 AF), during Episode 2, defeat Atlas in its weakened form with a 5-star ranking. The battle isn’t very hard, just make sure to go on the offensive and only heal when needed. Get 5 stars on the battle and the achievement is yours.

Budding Hunter.jpg Budding Hunter (30G)
Defeated an army’s worth of enemies.
You will need to defeat 100 enemies for this achievement, something you will likely do around Episode 2 or 3. Finish killing your 100th enemy and the achievement is yours.

Quick Draw.jpg Quick Draw (15G)
Performed a significant number of preemptive strikes.
You will need to start 50 battle with preemptive strikes. When an enemy spawns, swing your sword by hitting the A button. Hit the enemy with the sword before it touches you or the clock runs out to get a preemptive strike. You will likely get this around Episode 2 or 3. Get your 50th preemptive strike and the achievement is yours.

Staggering.jpg Staggering (15G)
Staggered a significant number of enemies.
You only need to stagger 50 enemies to get this achievement, something that will happen naturally. You will likely get this around Episode 2 or 3, but don’t worry if you don’t, after Episode 3 most enemies will stagger naturally before they die. Once you’ve staggered 50 enemies the achievement is yours.

Wild Thing.jpg Wild Thing (16G)
Successfully used Feral Link abilities a significant number of times.
You will need to execute a Feral Link 100 times for this achievement. Once you’ve added a monster to your party, during battle you will see a gauge below their name that fills as they deal and take damage. Once its full you can press X to execute a Feral Link. If you use this every time it fills you will get the achievement fairly early in the game, otherwise you’ll get the later. Either way, keep using your Feral Link, and once you’ve executed your 100th Feral Link the achievement is yours.

Anomalous.jpg Anomalous (30G)
Witnessed every possible Paradox Ending.
This achievement is only available after completing the main storyline and obtaining the Paradox Scope fragment skill. You will need to close the gate with its corresponding gate seal in order to activate the paradox ending. The following lists each possible paradox ending. The titles can spoilers in and of themselves, so beware:

Paradox Scope NOT required:

  • Bresha Ruins (005 AF) – Transcript: A Giant’s Mistake
Close the gate, complete the initial battle, then approach the giant Atlas and initiate the battle. Once you’ve defeated Atlas you’ll receive the Paradox Ending.
  • Sunleth Waterscape (300 AF) – Transcript: Mog’s Marvelous Flan Plan
Close the gate, complete the initial battle, then approach the Royal Ripeness and initiate the battle. Once you’ve defeated the massive flan you’ll be taken back to the Historia Crux. Select “Sunleth Waterscape (??? AF) to view the Paradox Ending,
  • The Void Beyond: New Bodhum (Episode 5) – Transcript: Fate and Freedom
When you speak to Lightning on the pier in this section, select “Yes” during the Live Action trigger to unlock this Paradox Ending. If you miss doing this the first time through the area, you will have to close Academia (4XX AF) and replay the entire section.

Paradox Scope IS required:

  • Oerba (200 AF) – Transcript: Vanille’s Truth – Paradox Scope required
Turn on the Paradox Scope, close the gate, and enter Oerba (200 AF). You can ignore the temporal rifts, just head for the Deserted Schoolhouse. Initiate the battle with Caius. The battle is tough, but if you’ve developed your party well you shouldn’t have much of an issue. Once you’ve defeated Caius you will be taken back to the Historia Crux. Enter Oerba (??? AF) to view the Paradox Ending.
  • Augustana Tower (200 AF) – Transcript: Test Subjects – Paradox Scope required
Turn on the Paradox Scope, close the gate, and enter Augustana Tower (200 AF). Continue through the area as you did the first time. Once you reach the Top Floor you will have to defeat the “ultimate” form of Proto fal’Cie Adam. The fight is not much different from the first one and should go smoothly if you have a decently developed party. Once you’ve defeated Adam you will be taken to the Historia Crux. Enter Augustana Tower (??? AF) to view the Paradox Ending.
  • Academia (4XX AF) – Transcript: The Future is Hope
Turn on the Paradox Scope, close the gate, and enter Academia (4XX AF). Travel to Hope and Alyssa and turn in the Graviton Cores again. Be careful not to skip any of the scenes if you want to see the whole story. When they attempt to hand over the Vagabond Artefact, refuse their offer in the Live Trigger. The Paradox Ending will begin immediately.
  • The Void Beyond (Episode 5) – Transcript: Beneath a Timeless Sky
Make sure that you’re party is very well developed before attempting this (as a general marker, Serah should have more than 5000 HP). Turn on the Paradox Scope, close the gate for Academia (4XX AF), and play through the area again as you did for the main story. Play through Episode 5 again and you’ll fight an improved version of Caius at the end of The Void Beyond. The battle is tough, but if you’ve developed your party well you shouldn’t have too much of a problem. Defeat Caius and you’ll be taken back to the Historia Crux. Enter New Bodhum (??? AF) to view the Paradox Ending.
  • A Dying World (700 AF) – Transcript: Heir to Chaos
You’ll want Noel to have more than 6000 HP before going for this ending. Turn OFF the Paradox Scope, close the gate to Academia (4XX AF), and play through the Episode 5 content as usual. Once you’ve defeated Caius in The Void Beyond, turn the Paradox Scope ON. Continue to play through Episode 5 until the battle between Noel and Caius. The battle is not that difficult if you’ve reached the HP mark set above for Noel. Defeat Caius and you’ll be taken to the Historia Crux. Enter A Dying World (??? AF) to view the Paradox Ending.

Once you’ve achieved all 8 Paradox Endings AND obtained all 160 fragments, activate the Paradox Scope and replay the final boss encounter. Once defeated you’ll view the game’s “secret ending” and the achievement is yours.

Beast Tamer.jpg Beast Tamer (90G)
Befriended a most unfriendly monster.
You will need to tame a Don Tonberry. Make sure that you have a very well developed party, activate the Monster Collector fragment skill, and the Battlemania fragment skill to make this as easy as possible. The Don Tonberry is a fairly challenging enemy found in Bresha Ruins (100 AF). Tame the enemy and the achievement is yours.

Big Game Hunter.jpg Big Game Hunter (30G)
Defeated every worthy opponent.
You’ll need to defeat the four mini-bosses in the Archylte Steppe. To spawn them on the map:

  • Ochu – Defeat the three Gigantuars, then speak to the Hunter Tipur by the Chocobo pen in the Nomad Camp. You may need to return to the Historia Crux and reenter Archylte Steppe to activate the encounter. Change the weather to rainy. The Ochu can be found by the waypoint in Clearwater Marshes.
  • Immortal – Defeat the three Gigantuars, then speak to the Hunter Myta by the Chocobo pen in the Nomad Camp. You may need to return to the Historia Crux and reenter Archylte Steppe to activate the encounter. Change the weather to cloudy. Immortal can be found by the waypoint in the Stonestump Wastelands.
  • Yomi – Complete the Ochu fragment, return to the Historia Crux, then reenter Archylte Steppe. Speak to Tipur again and he’ll give you this quest. Change the weather to stormy. Grab a Chocobo and head for the waypoint at Grave Ridge. Note: Yomi is also the only way to obtain Trapezohedron, so if you want to collect the two weapons with +1 ATB from Chocolina you will need to defeat him a minimum of 4 times. Most likely you’ll need to fight him many more times as the Trapezohedron only has a 5% drop rate.
  • Long Gui – Change the weather to sunny and the Long Gui can be seen from the weather terminal.
Once you’ve defeated all four enemies the achievement is yours.

Cerulean Medal.jpg Cerulean Medal (14G)
Defeated a powerful enemy with valiant skill.
Get a 5 star ranking against Proto fal’Cie Adam in Augusta Tower (200 AF) and the achievement is yours.

Choco-boco-holic.jpg Choco-boco-holic (14G)
Spent a fortune at shops.
You’ll need to spend 100,000 gil at Chocolina’s shop. This isn’t hard to do, especially if you wait until Chocolina starts carrying Grade 4 monster materials. Spend the required amount and the achievement is yours.

Chronosavior.jpg Chronosavior (90G)
Obtained the highest possible result in the battle to determine the fate of the world.
The best time to get this is after obtaining all 160 fragments in the game, ensuring your party is nearly maxed out. Replay the final battle and defeat the boss as quickly as you can. Get a 5 star ranking and the achievement is yours.

Clock Stopper.jpg Clock Stopper (15G)
Respond swiftly to the appearance of enemies.
You’ll need to get 100 CONSECUTIVE preemptive strikes. The best time for this personally was after getting the Encounter Master fragment skill, which can be sued to increase the spawn rate of monsters. Head for the Clearwater Marsh area of Archylte Steppe during rainy weather and keep fighting monsters in the area. Most of the monsters here drop Grade 4 or 5 monster materials, decent CP, and are simple to get preemptive strikes on. Get 100 in a row and the achievement is yours.

Fair Fighter.jpg Fair Fighter (90G)
Defeated a powerful enemy on equal terms.
You will need to defeat Raspatil on normal difficulty for this achievement. The enemy is very tough, and finding it is just as difficult. Raspatil spawn on the white beach in Oerba (400 AF) approximately every 20 minutes of running around. The Battlemania and Encounter Master fragment skills will help cut this time down. Once you’ve initiated the fight, be sure to keep your buffs up (especially Brave and Faith) and debuffs active. Kill any monster that Raspatil brings in as quick as possible, otherwise he’ll absorb the monster and boost his own attack. Keep at it, and once you’ve defeated him the achievement is yours.

Fragmented.jpg Fragmented (30G)
Complete an entire fragment category.
In the Fragment section of the menu you’ll find two options: Category or Location. For this achievement you’ll need to obtain all the fragments in any of the Categories. If you want to get this early, the easiest way is to complete the Quiz Mastery category. The entire category can be completed in Academia (4XX AF) without too much trouble. IGN.com has compiled a great list of answers to all the available questions for the quizzes, so I would suggest checking them out. Brain Blast Quiz Answers. Captain Cryptic’s Answers.

Defragmented.jpg Defragmented (90G)
Completed every fragment category.
There are a total of 160 fragments in Final Fantasy 13-2. Most of them are fairly simple to complete, while others will require a decent amount of dedication and patience. Use the following checklist to determine which fragments you’re missing and where they’re located. You’ll also find guides for some of the trickier fragments here as well.

Obtain all 160 fragments and thee achievement is yours.

Giant's Fist.jpg Giant’s Fist (90G)
Dealt 99,999 damage with a single attack.
The best place to do this is against the Long Gui in Archylte Steppe. Make sure that Noel has 800 strength or more and initiate the battle. Knock the beast to the ground and raise its stagger to 999.9%. Cast Brave on Noel, switch him to a Commando role, and have him launch a single attack. If you have trouble wait until Noel is completely maxed out before trying again. Once you’ve achieved 99,999 damage in a single hit the achievement is yours.

No Retreat.jpg No Retreat (16G)
Fought a significant number of battles without using the “Retry” option.
You’ll need to win 50 battles in a row without using the “Retry” option. If you haven’t achievemed this before the end of the game, I suggest doing it along with the Clock Stopper achievement. Since you’ll be getting 100 consecutive preemptive strike for that one, winning 50 of those battles without retrying shouldn’t be much of an issue. Finish your 50th battle and the achievement is yours.

Obsidian Medal.jpg Obsidian Medal (14G)
Defeated a powerful enemy with perfect execution.
In Academia (500 AF) you need to defeat the mini-bosses Pacos Luvulite and Pacos Amaethyst with a 5 star ranking. This isn’t that hard to do on the first try. The trick is to stagger one of the pair and get their helath down very low, then switch and defeat the other one before finishing off the first. If you kill one before damaging the other the remaining one can cast Split to regenerate its fallen ally. Defeat the pair with a 5 star ranking and the achievement is yours.

Saddle Sore.jpg Saddle Sore (12G)
Went the distance on chocobo-back.
You need to take 10,000 steps on a Chocobo for this achievement. If you haven’t gotten this achievement by the time you get the rest of the achievements, find a yellow chocobo and run around in circles. Once you’ve taken the required 10,000 steps the achievement is yours.

Serendipitous.jpg Serendipitous (12G)
Amassed a fortune in casino coins.
You need to earn 10,000 casino coins. Considering you need to collect over 25,000 coins to get all the fragments from Serendipity this shouldn’t be a problem. The best way to do this is to race Chocobos. The easiest way to win races is to max out either the Silver or Gold chocobo and enter them. They will win most races without an issue. Collect 10,000 coins and the achievement is yours.

Strategist.jpg Strategist (18G)
Performed a multitude of paradigm shifts.
You’ll need to do 1,000 paradigm shifts for this achievement. You should get this long before you complete the rest of the game’s achievements, especially if you take advantage of the ATB refresh trick. Every time the gauge fills twice, switch paradigms and the gauge will be full automatically. Complete 1,000 paradigm shifts and the achievement is yours.

Supreme Being.jpg Supreme Being (30G)
Fully developed all abilities.
You’ll need to reach level 99 in all roles for both Serah and Noel for this. You’ll likely get this while farming for monster materials. To make it easier, make sure to get the Rolling in CP fragment skill aas early as possible and keep it active for the rest of the game. Once you’ve maxed out all 6 roles for both characters the achievement is yours.

Trigger Finger.jpg Trigger Finger (30G)
Obtain five Cinematic Bonus rewards.
During the battles with Paradox Alpha in Bresha Ruins (005 AF), Atlas in Bresha Ruins (005 AF), the opening fight with Royal Ripeness in the Sunleth Waterscape (300 AF), Zenobia in Academia (400 AF), and Proto fal’Cie Adam in Augusta Tower (200 AF) you will need to complete the cinematic actions perfectly. Be sure to pay close attention to the prompts. If you fail to achieve a perfect, you will need to close the gate and redo the battle to try again. Once you’ve completed all 5 perfectly the achievement is yours.

Nice guide.

This game's achievement piss me off, though. I was going for them all but I really don't feel like completing the Monster Professor fragment. I don't feel like running around for hours in specific places hoping that specific monsters decide to show up... sounds super annoying and boring.

Yeah, I agree. I'm still debating if I'm going to finish that one myself, lol. At least it's marginally better than the collection quests the Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed series love to throw in...
