GTA V is less than one month away now and all we have gotten so far is some teasers and trailers. The only time we actually got some footage was in GTA Online trailer. But except that, we don't know much about that game.

Is this strategy going to pay off for Rockstar?

Considering that GTA is as established as a gaming franchise can get, I don't think the lack of exposure to the game will do a lot of damage to it. Anyone who has played the older games will want to try it and they are probably counting on a good first impression among gamers to push sales.

Or maybe I am completely wrong and they'll push for more visibility in the final month. The latter would admittedly make more sense.

No doubt about that. It always works and it will always works.

For the biggest of franchises more is always less. They don't need to do **** to promote their products. Just look at Apple. There is 0 actual news about any Apple product before its release. However the rumour mill keeps churning 24/7 throughout the year trying to "predict" what apple is going to do next.

THAT is what real hype is and what GTA goes through every time it releases.

And that in my opinion is the best type of hype you can create.

I think you make a good point, I've played most of the past GTAs and this one I can't seem to get excited about. I don't know much about what's new in it and I do think they probably should be making a bit more of an effort to get the info out on why I should want it. But that being said, I think NatureSun makes a good point, nowadays I feel like advertising is almost irrelevant in certain demographics for certain items, gamers keep up on gaming news and we discuss new games and why they'll be good. To some degree, I agree with the Apple analogy, fans of Apple products usually know what's coming along without Apple putting the word out. However, after the announcements, Apple does make commercials for their products, so the analogy falls apart a bit there because GTA was announced a while back, so it's not quite the same.

OK, let's make it very, very simple... look at how many people want the game, look at how much press it's getting, look at how popular it is, etc. Do you think it works, based on these factors? Because I certailny think it does. Everybody wants GTAV. So yes, it's definitely working.

.... Before we got anything people were willing to give all their monies for this. Now with the graphics, the dev team interviews, the trailers, and whatever else that's just frosting on the cake and more grist in the mill. People who always buy GTA will buy it regardless, people who like SR will buy it for comparison to SR4, people who just think it looks cool will buy it because it looks cool. Having more or less air time honestly isn't going to effect any of those groups.

Exactly what I think. We all know what to expect from GTA series after more than 10 years of their legacy. We want more.

It is a good strategy.
People get curious and then suddenly Rockstar gives some more information which results in more hype. So yea I think it is a good strategy.

It's smart marketing to me and it's paying off because everyone loves the trailer and is convinced it's a good game, even myself.

I don't care as long as the game looks good and they did I good job in my opinion in terms of marketing.

Like that time when God was all like "seriously, don't eat this apple" and the snake was all like "eat it" and then we ate it and apparently that is why women give birth and we are all expelled from heaven. It's pretty much like GTAV. I really want the stuff we can't get, only because we can't get it.

Yep, they are doing an exceptional job. 2K has stated that it's mission is to make amazing games and promote the heck out of 'em to help them sell better. Just look around yourself. You are sue to find people talking about GTA V.

That is the best marketing strategy you can ever use and its working for them.

Yes. People are excited about the game anyway, they basically know what to expect and they know that it will be a great game. So Rockstar doesn't lose anything, they just make it more thrilling.
