Microsoft turned down PS4 exclusive Rime, and has since implied this was a mistake.

Leaked documents obtained by VG Leaks reveal that developer Tequila Works pitched the game back when it was known as Echoes of Siren to Microsoft as an Xbox One exclusive, though it was dismissed. Following this the team approached Sony, where the budget was approved and the game restarted life exclusively on PlayStation 4.

The pitch describes the game as "Gauntlet meets Minecraft meets Jason and the Argonauts". You spend the day exploring an open world island, hunting for food, weapons and tools, then spend the night defending yourself against the island's monsters.

The game certainly looks incredible and the concept sounds like a lot of fun. I was a big fan of Minecraft on 360 and enjoy those kinds of games so this sounds like it would have been great to have on the XB1. I get that you can't win them all, but it would be nice to see MSFT focus a little more on unique games like this and not strictly on AAA titles only. I understand the blockbusters sell consoles, which is the business, but these small games that pique interest establish a loayal install base. Games like this make me glad to also own a PS4 and I hope MSFT starts thinking outside the box sooner than later. What do you guys think of the game?

The game looks really nice, to be honest I feel quite disappointed why microsoft turned this down. Well it's good that I have PS4 to play this game but it would have been a nice game on Xbox One to be honest. It does remind me of Mabinogi for some reason, some parts of the game really look similar.

Well I guess they didn't see the potential of the game and now Sony is claiming all the glory having the game on their list.

I'm glad I have my PS4. This game is a great game to be honest. I like the game play, the graphics and the simple action scenes. I don't know why microsoft didn't get the game before, I guess they are regretting their decisions now. haha.

I've gotta say, I totally agree on this. The game was really nice and it is something to look forward to.

You win some, you lose some, as the cliche goes. It's like how some actors/actresses turn down roles that would turn out to be the best of the best in the the movie industry. Well, either way, the game's still getting made. Planning to get a PS4 so yup, looking forward to playing this!

Wow, MSFT dissed this game? Well, well, well... MSFT don't like artsy games? Kidding aside, well, maybe the game at pitch time wasn't really up to the standards or maybe MSFT didn't see the whole picture. Ah well, you learn from mistakes. Well, looking forward to play this game.

You're right. Maybe there were some things MSFT they didn't dig much when this game was pitched. But then again, if this game was how it was during the pitch, then MSFT really didn't dig it much.

Microsoft turned down this game? Hmmmmm.... wonder why. Ah well, still... Phil Spencer admitted it was a mistake to turn the game down. Now, Sony has it. Better hope MSFT doesn't turn down another potential.

MSFT... why? Why'd you turn this down? This could've been Xbox One's own "Ico" or "Journey". But alas, MSFT turns down a great potential. Well, Sony snatched up their Ico of the PS4.

They really did. MSFT's got to learn that sometimes, even games like Rime have a potential to them. Sony's been in the market of gaming to know that Rime's one of a few games that's got style and art to it. Well, MSFT is at least learning their mistakes. Spencer did say it was a mistake so hopefully, the next Ico or Shadow of the Colossus doesn't slip out his hands again.

Yup, I hope it doesn't slip out indeed. AAA titles are nice and all but even those games that are underrated and B-title-ish actually can become hits. MSFT's got to get out of their comfort zones sometimes.

Yup, exactly. That's why these days, the PS3/Vita is getting more games than the 360. Tales of Xilia, Danganropa, Disgaea D2, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 5, Toukiden... Sony is open to all kinds of stuff. If MSFT can just open themselves a bit, they'll be able to offer more than just the usual AAA affair.

Now that you mentioned Disgaea, I kinda miss that game, same goes with persona. Good thing I still have my PS3.

Yeah, if only microsoft saw the potential of the game. If they had this I'm sire lots of gamers would want to get this game without a doubt.

You nailed it dude. They missed half of their life since they didn't get the game at all.

If they could have just seen how this game would be so successful they could have earned a lot.

They could have just owned the game. Now Rime will just be a PS exclusive. Something that I will be enjoying on my PS4.
