Minecraft: Enchanting
Enchanting is sort of a magical trick that will help you to make your Armors, Tools and Weapons become better and reward them with some extra features. Enchanting directly depends on your experience level and the higher the level – the better Enchanting and Power level you are going to get. Keep it in mind that your experience points can be used only once meaning that you will have to kill mobs and do everything else that gains experience again in order to enchant your next item properly.
There are three ways you can enchant your Items, Weapons and Armor. All of them are equally effective.

1. Enchantment table
The first and, probably, the simplest method of enchanting is to do it on the Enchanting Table. Well, it requires a certain preparation but when done, you can become a real Enchantment Professional in the neighborhood. For that matter you are going to need a few things:
- Enchantment Table: it will allow you to enchant certain tools and armor: Swords, Bows, Shovels, Pickaxes, and Axes made of Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold and Diamond, as well as all kinds of Armors.

However, the Enchantment Table is no good for enchanting Hoes, Buckets, Shears, Fishing Rods and Flint and Steel. In order to do that you will have to use the Anvil and an appropriate enchanted book.

To make an Enchantment Table, you will need 1 Book, 2 Diamonds, 4 Obsidian Cubes and a Crafting Table.

Now, as for the process itself: get closer to the Enchantment Table and open its menu with the action button. It will display a small menu with one free item slot. After you place the item you want to be enchanted, it will fill three rectangle slots with random but important enchantments. They are going to be written in strange language, so do not even try to crack the code. But even if you are tempted to – trust me, there is no use in that because the text there is meaningless. However, even despite their random nature, you will be able to see enchantments that suit your current experience level. They can be less or equal to your experience level but they will never be higher than that. Also, you need to remember: the higher the number shown in the right lower corner – the better enchanting level you are going to get.

Placing the Enchantment Table in any possible place, especially at home, is not a good idea. The trick is that when limited in space and surrounded by regular items Enchantment Table won’t show its maximum productivity and you won’t be able to enchant your Items, Weapons or Armor properly. But, for that matter you can and should surround your enchantment table with the book shelves and the more – the merrier. They have to be placed around the Enchantment Table with one block of air in between. You can either make a closed room with only one exit or place them otherwise with a few exits – it won’t actually matter as long as you follow the distance rule. When done correctly, you are going to see glyphs floating from the bookshelves into the book. This will mean that you did everything the way it was supposed to be done.

As it was mentioned before, having bookshelves near the Enchantment Table will increase the potency of enchantments. But then you can appear in an unpleasant situation when the Enchantment Table will offer you enchantments higher than your level. Well, this can be easily improved by placing torches or any other blocks that give light one block away from the Enchantment Table.

2. Enchanted book
06 Enchant Book.png
An Enchanted book is an item which allows players to add enchantments to Weapons, Tools or Armor by combining the Enchantment Book with one of the mentioned items on an Anvil. Enchanted Books can be easily identified by the red ribbon around them. You also need to remember that these books are single-use items and once you’ve used one of those, it can’t be used again. Enchanted books can:
- be found in generated chests usually located in dungeons, strongholds, desert temples, jungle temples, mineshafts and villages;
- be purchased with emeralds from a Villager Librarian (passive NPCs dressed in white). When playing in the Survival Mode, enchanted books might be the only method to obtain certain enchantments;
- be crafted with an enchanting table by the player. All you need to do is to put a book on an enchantment table and, well, enchant it.
The process of enchanting with the Enchanted book is rather simple: place the desired item in the first slot of an anvil and the already mentioned Enchanted book in the second slot. If you did everything right and picked the required items properly, in the Output slot you will get your Enchanted item. Though, there is a little possibility that you will see the information displayed in red notifying you that the Experience level you have is no good for Enchanting of the Level mentioned. And the green light, of course, means that everything is just OK.

3. Villager Priest
Villager Priest, as any other villager, is a passive Non Player Character (NPC) who spawns and moves in NPC Village areas. They can be found inside the building, on the streets and in other areas that can be treated as those connected to the village. In order to find a village priest, search for an NPC in purple pajamas. Get closer to him and activate the menu. Usually, priests offer to trade enchanting for emeralds and their offers are rather specific: they will ask you to give them a particular item in exchange for a particular enchantment. The good thing about enchanting by the village priest is that it has no experience level cost.

Effect: Aqua Affinity increases your mining rate when underwater and equals it to the one you have on the ground.

8. Thorns
Items: Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots.
Maximum Level: III
Effect: Thorns will allow you to use your armor for both defense and offense matters. Depending on the Level, they are likely to deal from 0.5 up to 2 Health Hearts to any mob that melee attacks you. The only thing you need to remember is that while Chestplates can be enchanted with this ability on the Enchantment Table, you will have to use an Anvil in order to enchant Helmets, Leggings and Boots.

9. Unbreaking
Items: Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots.
Maximum Level: III
Effect: Unbreaking will increase your armor durability. However, for that matter you will need an Anvil. With every level your armor is likely to last on 20%-30% percent longer.

As it was mentioned before, Power IV is the maximum level you can get from the Enchanting Table but there is a possibility to go further and enchant some items up to the Level V. Well, this can be obtained by combining, for example, two Level IV Swords using an Anvil.
If you want to know more about what to expect with every Enchanting, you should check out this Enchanting Calculator.
