Nintendo expects 20-30 indie titles to release for Wii U by the holidays | VG247

Nintendo has now announced that they are expecting at least 20 to 30 indie games to be released this holiday season. This comes after all the bad news that Nintendo has been receiving the past few weeks. Hopefully, this can be the thing that puts Nintendo and the Wii U back on track as it will be hard for the Wii U to compete with the PS4 and Xbox One this holiday season.

Now that is really interesting. It's high time that one of the consoles really started to embrace indie titles. Xbox has dabbled in it before, but it was never a big focus, and there's mixed reports about what exactly the future of indie games on the Xbox One will look like. If Wii starts releasing indie games (and curating the collection so that it's releasing really GOOD indie games), that might just make the console really relevant for a whole new group of people.

Sony have been having a GREAT push for indie games on their PS3 and Vita systems already and they have released and announced some big indies. For example, Hotline Miami, Terraria, Stealth Bastard (as Stealth Inc) and Lone Survivor, for example. Plus, the Vita is a great handheld so it's the best way to play such indie games if you want portability.

Good to hear Nintendo expects so many indie games but they have released some pretty trashy indie games on their systems, instead of the high quality ones like the ones I just mentioned.
