Do any of you think we'll be seeing popular PC games being ported to the Xbox One? I would love to see some opportunities for Console gamers to get exposure to games like "Chivalry" and "Iracing". Would you be excited for a port like this or would you be against it?

I think a lot of it depends on who produces the games and what the requirements of the game are. For example, some games are geared specifically towards PC because of their ability to upgrade to the newest graphics card. Consoles however, are stuck with what they came with unless you do some major modifications on your own time. That said, I'd still love to see Chivalry and other exclusives on the Xbox One! I'd only really be against mmo's being ported because that might mean having to hold back on the pc version instead of being allowed to put everything they can into making a beautiful and awe-inspiring game.

I agree with your point on MMOs. Take World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2, for example. Those games would be much less dynamic and visually stimulating if they were on consoles.

It depends on the games, the developers, the publishers and the budget. We might or might not. It really depends. For games like Chivalry (which I'm planning to get on Steam. :-D Love the melee combat in that!), it'll have to depend on developers 'cuz you know, they did make the game specifically for PC. But for the MMO, there's chances. But yeah man, the awesome PC-exclusives being ported to the Xbox One and other next-gen would totally rock.

But if not, Steam will try to bridge the gap with the Steam Box next year. That's where console gamers can get a shot at Surgeon Simulator 2013. Hejhehehe... I bet nursing students will be making something out of it XD

Maybe but I highly doubt since the well-known PC games are already doing well in the PC. Plus, with Steam Box coming, well, it's going to add an interesting scenario on whether it's a good idea to even port the PC games. But we'll see.

PC games on the Xbox One? Hmmm... ah wait, I think there's a chance. I remember Microsoft said this year that they're more focused than ever to really bring in more games from Xbox One to PC, to really satisfy the PC crowd. But if you're talking about porting the well-known PC games like yes, Chivalry, then it'll depend. It's working well already on PC, so not sure if they'll consider porting. Plus, Steam Box is coming out, so watch out. PC games that go PC-only may not make it to consoles, only Steam Box.

I completely forgot about the steambox! I heard it's going to run the new SteamOS. The idea of an operating system being dedicated to increasing performance of steam games is awesome! I'd love to be able to feel the true maximum power of my hardware in that kind of scenario. What about the increasing popularity of home-built PC's?

I know that I love it when ported games from PC to ios come out, like GTA or even the oldie Revolt, because it has a certain magic to, playing your favourite game as a child on a phone or tablet. But porting them to Xbox? Makes sense to me only if your PC is outdated and can't handle the graphics of a certain game, and since you have the Xbox, wouldn't make sense to upgrade your PC.

I think Steam's aiming for a newer market with the Steam Box. For those with the home-built PCs, Steam is offering the option to stream PC games on the TV with In-Home Streaming. But for the Steam Box, they're reaching out to a wider audience, to those who have interest in PC games but don't want to upgrade or even buy. Basically, they're making a PC console.

True, true. You make a good point. But then again, the chances for porting the really good exclusives, now that I think about it... is a bit slim. I mean, they work already well on the PC and also, there's a lot of factors to consider when you port them. The developers have a lot to do before they even port them. Think Surgeon Simulator 2013. I doubt that game will ever get ported, since it was Greenlighted by Steam. With the Steam Box, the more PC porting is going to be slimmer.

I think it won't affect much with the increased popularity of home-built PCs. Steam's planned this for a long time, so I'm sure they got something that can keep them afloat. They may have some weird tactics but somehow, they worked. Look where they are now. We're just going to have to see what they got planned.

The chances of PC porting is a bit small, I'm afraid. The PC games like Chivalry have worked so well in PC so I don't think we'll see them ported anytime soon. Unless the developers have thought of it, then Chivalry is gonna remain in the PC., That's why Steam Box looks to be the platform for console gamers to try out PC gaming through their living room. I see that happening.

I don't see it happening, but PC titles getting ported over to consoles would be a huge boost in sales for being easily accessible.

I don't think it would be too much of a hassle for companies to get PC specific games on consoles and it would benefit from more sales, but it's just a thing of mechanics. You'd have to map everything to function on a controller which is pretty limited. Some games would be easier to do than others, I suppose.

I'd say it's somewhat likely that PC games could get ported over to consoles. It would depend on the game and the amount of work that it would take as opposed to just continuing the upkeep of the PC version. Either way, PC-only developers would benefit greatly from porting since console gamers know what they're getting graphically and modlessness (it's a word, I don't care what spell check says), but have a machine that is ready to play without any upgrades etc. being made. Just bring the game.

That's true. It all depends on the developers. But given that the Steam Box is coming, that can change. It might even give the developers of PC games a chance to consider putting the games on consoles. But if it's only for the Steam Box... well, that's going to be something. Plus, there's that Steam Controller, where it maps the keyboard and mouse control into a haptic controller. Tha'ts going to change everything for PC game development.

That's why Steam is making the Steam Controller. It's not the traditional controller because the analog stick placements are using something called the haptic mechanic, where you're moving your thumb fingers on some circular touchpads or something. They actually map the keyboard and mouse on those. So it's going to be quite an interesting scenario when the Steam Controller comes out... and the Steam Box.

I keep forgetting about Steam Box. I read that it's possible for people to build their own Steam Boxes (some site had the prices of a minimal one and an optimum build one a while back) since the OS would be made available for everyone to use or something. That Steam Controller would really remedy the whole keyboard/controller thing.

I'm ok with PC games on the XB1, but they have to translate over perfectly for me to be interested in them. Perfect example is Diablo III. That game worked out great as a port on the 360. So looking forward to it "hopefully" coming out on the XB1 next year.

It depends on the PC game. There are a lot of MMO's that just wouldn't work on the consoles, I think people are surprised at how well Minecraft did (I know I was) but I don't see something like World of Warcraft or Shaiya doing that well. I agree that we'll have to see how the Steambox does before we can see if PC games work on the console. If the big 3 see it working then it make happen.
