Xbox 360 Realism in Dead Island?

How realistic do you feel Dead Island was? In terms of naturalness with the characters, gameplay, plot, etc.?
 
Far, far and really far realism. This game was arcady at best. There was nothing real about this game.
 
The character models were great, the environment was wonderful... the rest was rather a mixed bag. Weapons usage, weapons longevity, character movement, etc. some of it was pretty good, but other parts were ridiculous. Overall though if you're going to have a game with zombies you can't expect too much realism - particularly if they're like zombie classes or something.
 
Not very. The art design took a realistic approach, and the locales in the game look realistic, but that's about it. Since it's a Diablo-style RPG, weapons aren't at all like they would be in reality, and the mods are quite zany. The physics aren't wonky by game standards, but I wouldn't call them realistic by any stretch. It's alright that it's an unrealistic game, though; some aspects of realism in games can be good, but it's not an inherently good thing, and sometimes I want the polar opposite of realism.
 
This one time i punched a zombie so hard he flew off the screen. I would have to say, that is pretty realistic in terms of how zombies are, i could totally punch one out of the Earth's atmosphere.

A little known factoid is that zombie are magnetically repulsed by fists. A good hard punch is definitely the best way to handle them - bonus points if you do so without armor, gloves, and attention to the dozen other zombies trying to eat your face.

While there is a lot of detail in the game, and there is realism to body damage you inflict, in combat options, in stamina and knockbacks, and in weapon degradation (the upgrades are clever too). The rest of the game is rather not as polished, and not intended to be realistic, and more fun instead. The plot is actually left a mystery in the first game mostly, while your focus is on surviving and leaving, while the plot is actually well-fleshed out (No pun intended) in the second game. The sequel also balanced combat and tightened up controls a little bit.

Its not realistic by a long shot (hard to say for sure since I was never in such a zombie infected situation), but if you like the development of the series so far, the next spiritual sequel is being worked on by them called Dying Light.

I'll be honest here, these kind of moments are what kept me playing. Have you seen how they fly when you hit them with an electric sledgehammer, man? They fly so hard that they basically EXPLODE if they hit a wall! It's the only thing that kept me playing the friggin' game.
 
I don't think that the game was built for realism to be honest with you. The game is as someone else put it "arcadey" but I would rather use the world "gamey" and what I mean by that is that the mechanics are very similar to what you'd find in simple titles. You have a wood plank. You can hit something 15 times with it. You have to pay to repair it.

The most realistic part of this game is the tutorial inside the hotel. That was kind of a fun experience. Outside of that, there was nothing real about it and I don't think it was trying to be either. It took itself way too seriously towards the end, but, ...it was Dead Island and for that we thank it.
 
I like that it isn't realistic because then I would be way too scared to play it. I can not play Left 4 Dead because of that. It freaks me out way too much, but Dead Island has that fake element that let's me feel safe and removed from the situation. I wouldn't have it any other way.
 
Silly Lucy, there's no such thing as zombies.

To OP-
Realism in Dead Island? No, someone said it before me but it is arcady at best. If it was realistic, he would have been infected during the first fight where you have to take out 5+ zombies with a paddle. If there's a zombie breakout and you don't own firearms, you're done for.

This is true, but that's why it is so fun - because you aren't wearing rubber gloves, are standing in water half the time, and some how have not electrocuted either yourself or your companions. Yeah.
