Killer Instinct was a (welcomed?) surprise IP that was resurrected for the Xbox One launch. Got me thinking. If I could bring back any old franchise for the Xbox One, which would it be? How would you reinvent it?

One franchise I loved as a kid was Battletoads on the NES. I'd love if someone officially (and not a 4Chan or Ebaum troll meme) announced a project for Battletoads for the Xbox One.

And I know the Sega team keeps rolling out Sonic games all the time, so it wouldn't exactly be a "resurrection". But if they created a new Sonic game with the same side-scrolling platform gameplay as Sonic 4, but the graphics levels of say, Trials Evolution, I think that would be pretty intense.

Other games I'd love to see new versions (and not just re-released classic packs) of: PowerStone, Crazy Taxi, Psychonauts, Jade Empire.

If they made new games from old franchises good, but they all manage to dumb them down every time.
But if they managed to make them as good as the classics i think i would have to say Banzoo Kazooie, i am still waiting for that third game in the series!

I'm a big fan of fighting games so I would like to see Samurai Showdown remade for the next generation systems including Xbox One. If they made it into a 3D game, I think that it could even rival the Soul Calibur series. If not, I would like to see a new Rival Schools. This game could probably even be better than Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

a megaman game would be sweeeeetttttt..... but thats a nintendo thing iirc
a new sonic or nuckles game open world lots of room to run...
zelda again nintendo
dragon ball z
midnight racer/wangan midnight.... played the crap out of them.

but before we go with updating old games how about we get the ability to play 360 games on the xbo.... i would love to play my boarderlands2 on a system that dosnt glitch when a to of stuff is going on... not that it would look better but with 3x the power of the 360 it should run flawless especially with the lower than 60fps that the new games are pumping out.

Crackdown now that it's being rumored.

Though for long shots, a new Mercenaries game would be cool. So would a Spyro or Okami game.

The first Mercenaries game was really cool. The destruction was awesome, and I think it's the first game I played where that was implemented (not that it was the first game to do it or anything). I picked up a copy of Mercenaries 2 but I played literally about 30 seconds of it and called it quits. It was such a disappointment; I'd love it if they resurrected the franchise.

I really liked Crackdown also, but I never played Crackdown 2 past the demo. I heard it was just really repetitive, but I sort of liked the repetition in the first game. It was really unique, and if they could play off of the first game in terms of style while adding some more (better) features, it would be a great game to play.

I'm with BlackSolaris on this one. I wanna see banjo done right...that or maybe a new Perfect Dark....OR CONKER GOD DAMNIT!

Hmm guess I want Rare to step away from the kinect for a bit....

banjo was a cool game.
a mortal kombat one would be fun.. altho killer instint sorta fills the void for that style game.

their is not much that was avaliable that would be pretty cool on the new system... not much you can do to a contra, ninja guidan, skyfox or various other game to bring it to the new gen systems where it wont feel faked or pushed. even teanage mutant nnja turtles great game but to bring it to next gen ur going to have to push so much new tec to make it a legit game and that alone will take away from what we loved about the game.

A Banjo Platformer
A new Mega Man X SNES style for XBLA
Psychonauts; I haven't played it, but I've heard many good things. Maybe the following it had would give it a chance at success the second time around.
Chrono (although I fear what Squeenix would do to it, even being someone who somewhat liked XIII)
Contra
Gauntlet
Battle Tanx

@roadies Yup, killer instinct was brutal! KI Gold on the N64 is my favorite fighting game of all time.
However, the only old-skool game franchise I wanna see resurrected is... STREETS OF RAGE!

Oh, what a wonderful Resurrection that would be. Side scrolling beat-em-up action in all its glory! I do seriously hope that they would not 'dumb down' the game like you guys have said as that would just be sad :(

Things like smashing bottles over peoples heads and throwing little daggers at them would have to stay!

Id love them to release HD versions of the Strike series (desert / jungle / urban) onto the marketplace, even better if they can add coop.

Id rather a HD re-release than an update because the games were brilliant and I wouldnt wanna lose that by it turning 3D

If they resurrected Streets of Rage it would probably be something along the lines of the inFamous games, I would think. Unless it was an arcade game, there's no way they'd do a 2D sidescroller for a next-gen console. I loved the Streets of Rage games, though, and it would be really awesome to see them make another appearance one day.

If I could bring back any series it would be the Battle toads series. I loved playing the games as a kid, pretty much up to the point where I became addicted to them. Some days I still bring out my old super Nintendo and play it for hours. Since it was developed by Rare, I can definitely see Microsoft brining the franchise back to it's former glory and reintroducing it to a whole new generation of gamers who never played the games.

this may not be a throw back and is def not a xbox or microsoft.. but a re engineered power stone
32min long watch:

it was a 3d world.. you could pick up throw kick grab the enviroment.. jump on roofs, swing from poles and was one of the best fighting games ive played. with a few more charaters, battle stages and enviroments the base of the game has allot of potential and room for growth especially with computing and general graphic capability..

Power Stone is still my favourite fighting game, there were some great games on the dreamcast

the system was ahed of its time.. and i think would done extremely well without hackers de enginering the code and making the games free to everyone via burning..

the house of dead 2 was a killer shooter game.. duck huter style... with zombies and such... great game.
power stone/power stone2 already went over this jam... best arcade style fighter to date in my eyes..
rayman2 was a good hit.
crazt taxi intresting.. not a fn of short play arcade style but was fun.
jet set radio.... intresting game. i believe microsoft has a rip of off it with an exclusive... iirc
spawn was a great hit.. (bring it back)
toy commander was fun
ready to rumble.. face brakers is the 360 rip off

it had odd games like seaman where you gre a fish type of creature.. lol odd
it also had shenmu was like one of the most anticipated titles with a rediculous number of play hours to beat the game... it would probly rival the games of today like watch dogs and what not.

Ohhh! EA are really missing a trick not re doin jungle strike! That was one of my favourite games of all time on my mega drive!
A lot of people didn't really get the game for some reason though?
As for desert strike, well, that was one of the first games I ever installed using DOS and a floppy disk on my pc! Ahh, good times ;)

Infamous!? No way... It's not even close. The game would still have to follow some linear path. As in, side scrolling action as it just wouldn't be the same otherwise. And as to games created for next-gen consoles, I don't see why they couldn't do that? Don't you remember tekken force mode from tekken 3? That brought streets of rage style beat em up action to the play station.

Then you've got games like shank on the Xbox market which is a top selling side scrolling beat em up style game.

You may be right on one thing and that is that it may have to be an arcade release. After all, it was an arcade style game through and through.
