Xbox 360 What exactly is Minecraft?

Okay, so I've seen a lot of stuff about Minecraft regarding building things and different mods, but I've never seen anything yet explaining the point of the game. I'm a big fan of gaming (I'm here aren't I?), but I don't see the draw of this game compared to the amount of internet traffic it creates.

So, please educate me on what exactly Minecraft is, why you play it, and why the graphics are so blocky...

Minecraft is a sandbox game. It's graphics is blocky because you're creating stuff by using blocks, different kind of blocks to be exact. Other than creating stuff it also have the survival mode where there's mobs everywhere and you can do whatever you want to survive. You can combine blocks to create weapons, you can make a nice shelter to avoid/slow down the mobs, you also need to find food for your character, because you also have HP. I used to play this game before in my good ol' PC. I haven't tried the Xbox version though.
