The rumours were right. New Volition owner Deep Silver has announced an August multiplatform release for Saints Row IV. Precise Australian dating has not been confirmed, but the US is looking at August 20 and it should hit Europe by August 23, so throw a dart between those two dates and hope.

Saints Row IV was first announced as an expansion to Saints Row: The Third called Enter the Dominatrix, and was later spun off to a stand alone game and finally full sequel. It follows on from the plot of the previous game but somehow manages to get even sillier. The Saints are made “leaders of the free world” after the player character is elected as president of the United States, and are soon faced with the greatest turf war of all time thanks to a “catastrophic alien invasion occurs”.

This should be good! But it does seem like a Saints Row 3.5 to me. But that's just me...

I can agree that it's a game to look forward to. I enjoyed Saints Row 3 a lot, and I will be buying this for sure. Shame that we have to wait until August, but I have MGR to keep me busy for now I suppose.

I haven't played Saints Row 3 but goddamn this sure sounds way more ridiculous than 2 was. Kinda weird that this started as a Saints Row 3 DLC, sure makes it sound like it will end up being SR3.5, but we'll see.

Looking good! I really feared what will happen to Saints Row after THQ files for bankruptcy. I didn't heard a single news about the acquisition of the series by Deep Silver. We haven't got a good game from them after Dead Island so its about damn time! I'm also glad that this will be released before GTA V!

Nice, here's a few things I'll like to see in this version.

1. a nice long story (one that i couldnt complete in 2 days)
2. a better soundtrack
3. maybe a bigger city like San Andreas
4. more stuff to do, like gamble at casinos, get drunk at bars, go to night clubs
5. My 3 favorite gangs from the series are Luchadores, Sons of Samedi, and Brotherhood. Id like to see a comeback from one of them

I'm very hopeful that this is going to be a really great game! I played basically days on Saints Row 2, but only a few hours on Saints Row 3. From what I have played, I really hope they bring back the best elements from both games and create one of the best sandbox games of the decade! From what I can see I'll be pre-ordering this game as soon I can. :D

This is definitely good news for me. I have to say I've only played one Saint's Row title, the third one, and I really enjoyed it. It seemed as if it was some kind of parody of itself.
It had really good game mechanics, the multiplayer mode was fantastic and addictive, and it was a really solid game, but most of all, a fun game, which is what every game should want to achieve.
I'm definitely excited for this one now.

You should definitely look for the 1st and 2nd games too, specially the 2nd one. If you enjoyed The Third, the other two should be enjoyable to you too! Keep in mind that the 1st and 2nd games aren't as ridiculously crazy, but they are insane too in their own way.

Well people, I guess that there's no reason to worry that this will turn into a SR3.5 since it started as "Enter the Dominatrix" since apparently everything they had done for Enter the Dominatrix has been "thrown out", which is kinda sad to hear, but it's good to know they really want to turn this into SR4 and ensure it's not actually SR3.5

Volition explained to us at PAX East today that Saints Row 4 isn't "Saints Row 3.5" nor the canceled Saints Row: The Third standalone expansion "Enter the Dominatrix" in a different package. The team told us that work began on Saints Row 4 about two months before The Third finished, with another team split to do Dominatrix. Check the quote and source:

"We had to go in and totally gut the [Dominatrix] story for Saints Row 4. Everything that was the missions or the story we did for Dominatrix was totally thrown out," Steve Jaros, creative director at Volition told us. "All the voice recording that we did all thrown out. We redid the entire story. The game is mission wise the same length as Saints Row 3, plus other open worlds on top of it."

Am I the only one who hopes Saints Row reverts back to its old gangster ways like in 1 and 2? 3 was good, no doubt about it but it wasn't what I was hoping for. I doubt they'll do it but one can hope. I'll probably get SR4 anyways.

Judging by the trailer, it doesn't look like they're going back to their roots anytime soon.

I'll definitely be getting this one. I'm hoping they can add a bit more to do and a bit more freedom, but another great storyline is enough to keep me around for these types of series.

I'm interested and turned off at the same time. Saints Row 3 was just outright silly, and now...they seem to have continued to become more silly. But yet it seems a little cooler in a different way, I'm not sure where they are going with the superhero aspect, but it appears to be either a breath of fresh air for the series or just a fast way to grab cash. I won't be preordering it, but I'll keep an eye on reviews once it comes out.

Haha, this is the first I'm seeing this. But, the crazier, the better, I'm all for it. After playing Saints Row 3, I was wondering what more could do they do with this series, but now an alien invasion, haha. I'm waiting to see what new game mechanics they'll add in.

Its a must play, but I do not know if I'll buy it. Saints Row 1,2,3 were all awesome. I think 2 had the best story overall, but 3 was pretty cool with the over the topness. This game will make us all question, how far is too far?!?!

Great news, but i hope that they stop with the serious plot like they did with the last one and just go full nuts with this one. If i want some compelling story, i will play GTA, thank you very much. Just focus on bringing the most retarded fun you can create!

It looks like they have completely lost their minds. I can't tell if that's a good thing or not.

I think they tried to compete with GTA at first, saw the sales weren't as good, and said "f it, let's do our own thing."

I've only ever played Saintsrow 1 and 2, and I think that they were really good. I've not played Saintsrow 3 before, but I've heard that it's stupid, and seems many of this forum are agreeing with that. The trailer looks a little too hyped up to be honest, like many trailers. I think that trailer was a bit stupid also though and doesn't make me want to buy the game any more than I did previously.
