AFL Live is a great sports game, especially for those who enjoy rugby. Sure, all the American football fans will start complaining saying that rugby is not a sport and that football is a lot better. Well, my friends, you need to remember that football roots come from rugby and with a bit modified game rules and tactics, we have today that great sport called American Football. But, I am pretty sure that it would be nice to take a closer look at the game that actually gave the birth to the American National Football and take something from it.

AFL Live is not a hard game and I would give it 5 points out of 10 on the complexity scale. Sure, there are some achievements that will make you very angry but there are also those that will come to you in a couple of button hits. All in all there are 38 achievements and it will take you about 60+ hours to finish them all, mostly because of the long matches you are going to play. Yes, difficulty influences your achievement progress and there are a few glitched achievements but in general – everything should flow nice and easy.

Below are the achievements for “AFL Live”, along with the number of achievement points you’ll receive and a summary on how to get each achievement.

AFL Live Achievements
There are 38 achievements with a total of 1000 points.

Leather Poisoning (15)

Gather 40 or more disposals with a single player.

Start a match with any team you want – it doesn’t matter but before pressing the “Start” button and getting on the field, make sure the quarter length is set to 20 minutes. This will help you to unlock the achievement faster and easier. Now, choose a player that is going to get 40 disposals. It can be any player from your team but the most active should be a perfect choice. Now, make sure that he gets almost all disposals or, at least, as much as possible. At the end of each quarter check the number of disposals he’s got (the more – the better). When he gets his 40[SUP]th[/SUP] – you will get 15G points for your persistence. By the way – you can also attempt to unlock this achievement in a Legend Season.

No 'I' in Team (15)

Play a co-operative match with at least 2 players on the same team.

A perfect option to complete this is to grab a friend and play one game on the same console. Remember: you need to start the game, play it to the end and finish it with BOTH players! If someone steps aside and quits beforehand – there is a great possibility that you won’t get the achievement. You can also try to complete this by yourself. To make things go faster – set the quarter length to the minimum.

Downtown (15)

Kick a goal from within the center square.

This might get tricky at the first few times but with a couple of training kicks you should get things done. First of all, you need to find an amazing kicker. It might be anyone you like but I personally picked Matthew Pavlich from Fremantle. Now, whenever you are ready, mark the ball in the center square. Kick it and wait for the goal. If not – try as long as needed to kick a goal. By the way – I do not recommend trying to torpedo the ball as far as it makes the ball incredibly inaccurate.

Australian Made (15)

Create a player in the player creator.

This is a simple one: Go into the “Footy Factory” > Select “Create a Player”. As a matter of fact, you do not have to change or modify anything. You can if you want to but if you came for the fast achievement – all you have to do is to keep pressing the “X” button. When you are done and the character is saved, exit back to the “Menu” and you should have the achievement mentioned.

Kicked a Bag (15)

Kick 5 or more goals in a match with a single player.

This should come to you naturally but if you are not sure in your skills, try to set the quarter length to 20 minutes and choose the weakest team as your opponent. Now, your task is to kick 5 or more goals with a single player. Convince your forward to do all the job and this achievement will become yours in not time.

Fruity (15)

Kick a goal from the boundary with a banana.

Banana is not only a tasteful fruit but also a very useful method to score in rugby. Play the match and wait for the precious moment when you will have to kick the ball from the boundary line. Line up the goal, then hold RT + X until you’ve got the power you want. If you did everything right, the ball will curve around and hopefully get you a goal. If not – try to do the very same thing for a few more times.

Talk to the Hand (15)

Break 2 tackles in a row with fends.

It might get tricky at first but you should unlock this while progressing through the game. Your task is to break 2 tackles in a row with fends. This has to be done with the very same player and in one attack. If you can’t get this during your first matches, just keep playing and when your enemies get tougher – you should receive your achievement. To break a tackle, you need to press the “Y” button at a certain moment. If you do it too early or too late – you will fail. Of course, you can always restart and attempt to unlock the achievement one more time but you will still be forced to do 2 breaks in a row.

Shut'em Down (15)

Perform 10 effective tackles in a match.

This should come to you naturally but to stay on the safe side you can set the quarter time to 20 minutes and ask your friend to help you out and become a second player (or simply choose a weak team to play with). Now, you need to perform 10 tackles. Well, they do not have to be in a row but if you concentrate on effective tackles, it should unlock the achievement a lot faster. In order to get things done, you will have to choose a player that can makes tackles. To switch between players press the “LB” button. A tackle counts as an effective one when you get a free kick from it. If you hold the ball – it’s good; if the ball goes too high and in the back – it’s bad.
If you are using two controllers to complete this achievement, you can do the following: run too far with the ball by sprinting with the “RB” button, giving them a free kick. Once the umpire calls for play on, run forward and tackle them. Well, it worked great for me.

Online Player (15)

Complete 5 online games.

This is the only achievement that has to be unlocked online. The good news is that you are not obliged to win: your task is to play 5 games in total (not in the row either). Win, draw or lose five matches and get your 15G points. Pretty easy, I would say. Set the quarter time to a minimum to make the games last less.

Dancing with Your Sister (15)

Play out a drawn game.

You can get it by an accident that can actually last for a pretty long time or you can get it on purpose. Or, you can set up the game with a friend and also unlock the achievement. In case of an accident, all you have to do is to play the game and if it ends with two even numbers on the board – you can take your 15G points.
If you plan to do it on purpose, just make sure that the board shows two even numbers and keep things that way to the very end of the game: protect your gates but at the same time try not to score a point. When the match is over – you will get your achievement.
If you play with a friend – help each other and open the score. Now just fool around and wait for the game to end. When the match is over – you will get your achievement.

Slippery When Met (15)

Win a match in the wet.

To make it rain, you need to do the following: Choose a Single Match > Set Up Teams > Go to Match Settings > Select a stadium (other than Etihad Stadium) > put the weather to raining. Now, when you start the match, it will be raining cats and dogs. Do your best and win the game.

Storming Home (15)

Storm home to win without the opposition scoring a goal in the final quarter.

In order to make it fast, set quarter time for 3 minutes and start any match you like. Try to score in the first three quarters but when it comes to the fourth – skip the fun and stop your opponent from scoring a goal. The easier the difficulty – the easier it can be done.

50 Meter Bomb (15)

Kick a goal from beyond the 50 meter arc.

It is a lot easier to get this achievement when your player is on the run. However, if you have a set shot – the mark cannot be taken within the 50 meter arc. In order to unlock this achievement from a set shot, get the mark from a few meters outside the 50 and kick away.

Poster (15)

Hit a goal post and score a behind.

You shouldn’t have any problems getting this one as far as it will come to you naturally. Unlocking this achievement involves kicking the ball so it hits the goalpost, meaning you score a behind.

First Use (15)

Perform 5 taps directly to a receiver in a match.

By all means it is a lot easier to unlock this achievement if you have a player standing right behind you. Your task is to direct the ball to one of your receivers. Just flick the RS towards then once the controller vibrates. Do it five times during the match and this achievement should become yours rather sooner than later.

Even Spread (15)

Win a game with 9 or more individual goal kickers.

I am pretty sure that this is self-explanatory: you need to win the game with 9 or more individual goal kickers. If you want to make things easier, it might be a good idea to move your field around once one player has kicked a goal. Also, switching the most recent goal kicking with players from the back line and the bench will greatly help with this one. To make sure that everything will be done in one match, I would recommend completing this in a longer game (Leather Poisoning should be fine). Also, set your difficulty to Easy if possible.

Chairman of the Board (15)

Create a full team of 40 or more players in the Footy Factory.

This achievement is not hard to complete but it will take you some time – especially if you plan to get serious in creating a new team. Go to the “Footy Factory” > Select “Team Editor” > Choose “Create Team”. Now, go to the “Player Creation” menu and start creating players. With every player you create, at the bottom of the screen you will see a “Team option” bar when giving a name to your player. Simply out the new player into your custom team and continue creating players. When you add at least 40 players to your team – the “Chairman of the Board” achievement will pop up.

Attacking Pressure (15)

Kick 3 goals as a direct result of free kicks from tackles in a match.

The best way to complete this one is to do it in your forward line as far as this will help you to concentrate directly on the goal. Also, if you have a friend to play with, it might be a good idea to use the second controller and make things easier.

Road Trip (15)

Win a game with an AFL team against an interstate AFL team at their home ground.

You can unlock this while playing Season Mode or you can organize a Single Match and set up everything to make it happen fast. Put your controller as the “Away Side.” Now, select any team from the list but make sure that it is not from the same State your team is. In this case your win won’t count. Now, select their home ground as the playing field, start the match and win the game. I did it with playing for Richmond against Fremantle.

The Professionals (30)

Win a Toyota AFL 2011 Premiership Season on Professional, no simulating.

The only thing you need to remember is that you are supposed to finish the Season without simulating games. Also, at the very end of the season you are supposed to become a winner and not a loser. This shouldn’t be hard to complete but it might take a while. You can choose whatever team you want but I would recommend you to choose something different from Richmond vs. Geelong and Carlton vs. Sydney because these teams have been known to freeze later in the season. I personally played with Fremantle and everything went OK. And again – no matter how lazy you are – do not simulate any of the games. Otherwise, you won’t get the achievement.

Legendary (85)

Win a Toyota AFL 2011 Premiership Season on Legend, 20 min quarters, extreme injuries, no simulating

To unlock this achievement you will be forced to replay Toyota AFL 2011 Premiership Season but this time your difficulty has to be set on Legend. Also, you will be forced to increase the quarter length up to 20 minutes. And the last but not the least – you won’t be able to simulate any of the games. If you do – you will have to restart the whole season and replay it one more time.

Amateurs' Hour (15)

Win a Toyota AFL 2011 Premiership Season on Amateur, no simulating.

And again – you will have to replay Toyota AFL 2011 Premiership Season one more time and complete it on Amateur difficulty, again – without any simulation. If you did well with the “Legendary” achievement – this should be an easy one for you. For more information you can check “The Professionals” or “Legendary” achievements above.

The Beautiful Game (30)

Kick the ball off the ground to score a goal.

The closer your ball is to the gates, the better your chances are to score 6 points. Actually, this is an easy one: when the ball is on the ground in front of your goals, press and hold the “X” button and your player will soccer the ball off the ground and, hopefully, score a goal.

Nabbed It (80)

Win the Pre-Season Competition on Legend in real time with extreme injuries.

First of all, you need to start a NAB Cup with the very same setting you used to get the “Legendary” achievement. You also need to remember that simulation is not allowed in here. But, the good news is that you can actually get it a bit easier and a bit faster than you expect. Pick either Sydney or Gold Coast as far as they will be paired with Greater Western Sydney. You will see that the game is automatically simulated. Do not worry – this won’t break the achievement. For more information you should check the “Legendary” achievement.

Hard Nut (30)

Perform 20 heavy bumps.

Probably, the best thing in rugby is Bump. There is nothing more exciting than a well performed bump. Now, to unlock this achievement your task is to do the following:
1. Create a Single Match and set up the opposition to be another controller (you can do it while playing with the AI but an innocent cheat won’t do much harm);
2. Now, when in the game, wait for opponent to get the match (if you are playing with two controllers, this should not be a problem).
3. Use your first controller and run towards the enemy with a ball and press the “RS” button to bump him. Knocking the player to the ground counts as a heavy bump. The good news is that you do not have to do this in a row – just keep hitting other players and when you perform 20 heavy bumps, you will get this achievement.

By Hand (30)

Win a match with more handballs than kicks.

Actually, this is an easy one but here’s a good recommendation on how to make it all even easier. So, start a match and get a few points ahead. This will ensure you from losing the game. Your second step is to start handballing like crazy (use the “B” button for that). This will be a piece of cake on a low difficulty but is also achievable on Legendary. And remember – the number of handballs has to be higher than the number of kicks.

Spoil Sport (15)

Perform 50 spoils.

This should come to you naturally as you progress though the game and will accumulate across all your matches. In order to perform a spoil, all you have to do is to press the “LT” + “Y” buttons whenever there is a marking contest. Play the Professional Season to get things faster.

Torpedoes Away! (15)

Kick a goal with a torpedo from 50 meters.

You will likely get it naturally while progressing through the game but there is something you need to know about a couple of things, otherwise, your attempts to perform a Goal With Torpedo might turn into a totally different achievement. So, when running for goal with a torpedo, you need to hold the “RT”+“X” buttons. If you do it near the boundary, it will do a banana kick instead and you do not want that. The other thing to keep in mind is that you need to kick from a few meters from outside the fifty. For more information check the “50 Meter Bomb” achievement.

Lifetime Lagger (80)

Kick 5000 goals.

This achievement is definitely the longest one. Your task is to score 5000 goals which won’t be easy. But, the longer you play – the better your chances are to unlock this before the last match. If not – try to score as much as possible during the match by setting quarter’s time to 20 minutes and lowing difficulty to Easy.

Hot Streak (30)

Win 5 matches in a row during a season on Professional difficulty or above.

It won’t be hard to complete if you are familiar with the game rules and principals. Now, here’s what you need to do: get in your Professional Season and just keep winning games. You need to have 5 wins in a row, otherwise – it won’t count.

End-to-End (30)
From a kick-in, score a goal without the opposition touching the ball

You won’t have problems getting this one on a low difficulty but it may turn in a bit of pain on Hard. When kicking the ball in from an oppositions goals (your backline), press “LT”+”A” buttons to kick directly to a player on your team. Continue doing this until you get to your forward line and kick a goal.

Winners (are Grinners) (15)

Win a match.

You will get it at the very beginning of the game. At least – you are supposed to. Start your very first match (you can set difficulty to the lowest one to make things flow faster) and play for win. When the game is over and you have more points on the score board – this achievement will become yours.

Playing Tall (30)

Win a ruck contest with the shortest player on your team.

This is an awkward one but we still have a recipe for its successful unlocking. Before you attempt to unlock “Playing Tall”, we would recommend to create the required player when you will be creating a team of your own.
1. Make a player;
2. Set his position to “Ruck”;
3. Set his height to the lowest point;
4. Start a “Single Match”;s
5. Use the Second Controller as the opposition;
6. Start the ruck contest;
7. Flick the “RS” button to win the tap out.
Enjoy your achievement.

Chas (30)

In Season mode, a member of the player controlled team wins the Brownlow medal.

Unlocking this achievement should not be a problem as long as one of your players has a lot of disposals and goals (especially, if he is named “Man of the Match”). The strategy here is pretty simple: pass the ball to one of your most perspective players during the game as much as possible and you will unlock this one in no time.

Set for September (30)

Finish on top of the ladder in a Toyota AFL 2011 Premiership Season, no simulating.

Progress through the game and if you win a greater part of games – you will likely get this achievement. Remember – you are not allowed to simulate games. Otherwise – you will be forced to replay the Season. Winning every game in the season will throw you to the top of the list automatically.

First Class Century (80)

Have a player in your team kick more than 100 goals in a season.

If you are not sure in your game skills – the best thing to do is to set the quarter length up to 20 minutes (more minutes – more time to get things done). Now, make sure your Full Forward gets as many goals throughout the season as possible. By the end of the season he has to score 100 goals – no less. As for me, I picked Richmond in one of my seasons and made Jack Riewoldt to do all the job. He unlocked the achievement by the Round 16.

Got the Wood on 'em 30

Defeat every team at least once in a home and away season.

This is really self-explanatory: keep playing and keep winning. You need to defeat every team at least once in a home and away seasons. Though, you can play your games on Easy difficulty and get things done fast.

It's a Drubbing (30)

Win a match by over 50 points.

You can get it easily if you set your game to the lowest difficulty level. After that scoring 50 points in one match in 3 minute quarters won’t be an issue. Play for win and score as many goals as possible. Do not get upset if you don’t get it at the first attempt – it means that you need a bit more practice.
