Xbox One Biggest day one headache?

Again... x1 launch day will have less traffic than patch Tuesday which happens every month, and serves up downloads to several hundred million computers, with most people forgetting that patch Tuesday is a thing. If anyone has the capacity, and know how, it is Microsoft.

Patch Tuesday updates are still staggered so that people download them at random times. If you have more than one computer in the house they likely will still get patches at totally different times, maybe even a day later. Plus, not everyone's computer is on at the same time. (I actually work in IT and handle updates for about 60 computers)

At 9pm eastern time on Nov 22nd, tons and tons of people are all going to be jumping online to play. Not everyone will be playing an online game, but there's going to be an Xbox update that every single person needs to get. Think about it, who's going to preorder an XB1 and not be playing it that night? :)

This already happens now with current games. I buy the NHL game every year and we always try to play online the first Friday night after release and there are often major problems. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often.

Indeed! I an see MAYBE some slow time a little, but they know their services including LIVE like the back of their hand.

*looks at back of his hand* "OMG WTF is that?!"

It will probably be the online play. I imagine that something will go wrong with the servers. We all know there will be some sort of bug that tarnishes day one to a certain extent. Oh well. Expect the worst and you won't be disappointed. That's sort of my life motto that I've come to terms with after many years on this prison planet.

It will be interesting to see if Xbox Live holds up to a ton of people all trying to get on at the same time, say around that first Friday evening. :) It will be interesting to see how the "cloud" holds up. Make sure to have a single player game lined up, just in case.

That is some very good advice. But as another user commented, the main problem might not be on Microsofts side of things, but the developers. Especially with those games releasing for both the One and 360 at the same time. If there's a huge MP element to those games, it could be chaotic.

Cross your fingers the cloud doesn't contain a thunderstorm! (I apologize for that poor attempt at humor. I just got out of work so give me a break lol). :)

I don't see why there would be any issue. There are already a ton of x1's out there beta testing the network. Microsoft is one of two companies in the entire world I trust to not have capacity issues at launch.

Sony on the other hand... I don't think they have ever launched a network with the width and breadth of the one they will be launching for PS4. They seem to have issues keeping PSN up as it is...

I'm not going to fan a console war fire here, but the PSN lately has been buggy as hell. It takes forever to load the store and when it finally loads I get an error message when I try to click on something. Not ALL the time, of course, but enough where it's noticeable.

Also when Battlefield 3 came out for free (if you're a PSN Plus member. Which I am), I started downloading it in the background and went back to watching TV. I went back to check on it, and it had just stopped. My system wouldn't unfreeze and I wound up having to unplug it to even get it to shut off. I turned it back on and no file for BF3. I went back to the store and it said it was already downloaded lol. I didn't bother trying again. I was so angry at that point.

Now that my whine fest is done, I have to say I love the PSN Plus perks for the most part. And my PS3 usually runs without a problem. I would have missed some awesome exclusive games without it, so I'm pretty satisfied. I think I went way off topic with my crying here and I apologize. Just sharing. :D

If it's one thing that I can say Microsoft got extremely right in the gaming world that would be Xbox Live. They started it back in 2002, and till this day they have the best online gaming in the world. PSN followed with their network back in 2006. So I really don't think we are gong to have any online issues with X1. The only thing I am worried about is waiting in line on release day, and a group of Sony Fanboys doing a drive by.

My local GameStop usually lets us wait inside lol.

I think worst case scenario would be the servers crashing and so not being able to download the update and/or use your new console. Can you imagine if you don't buy a disc game so you're just waiting to digitally download?! I think I would need to go yell at some one lol.

Worst case scenario? I think that's honestly one of the better scenarios. If a console launch is flawless except for some beginning server issues, that may be one of the least bumpy console launches of all time.

for most game launch our gamestop stays open till like 1am. the general sales that night are actually good irc... they usually have whatever game is launching hooked up for people to play/watch while they wait till 12... they will even let u pre pay and stamp your receipt for easy transaction at 12.

Our gamestop usually has a line of about 200 for just COD games. So getting inside is usually impossible. Not sure what XB1 launch will be like since they were only given 60 day 1 editions.

Normally a nerd drive by just involves being hit by stray spittle while someone rages against your choice of game or console. But this could be serious. It could involve controllers. Say what you want about my game, but don't EVER talk smack about my controller.

I imagine that being the best line in a "NerdFather" movie!

Let's face it. A duel to the death is what we're all hoping for even if we don't say it lol. A nerd death match would be like a regular death match without any of the violence. We could call it "Slap Match 2013". But it would be EPIC!

Uh, Xbox Live has online issues all the time. It's a great online platform, but saying that you won't have any online issues when thousands of people all get online at the same time on the same servers is just, well, it's a bit optimistic, isn't it? More than likely, there'll be a bunch of server crashes on Day 1, unless Microsoft under-sells the console.

oh boy Reptar...lol...smh. You are making me laugh again. Here is the thing, in another post you said you have WOW!. Well I have them also and I have the 50 MB down / 5 MB up speed and there is never an issue on my end. Now I have NO idea what you are talking about, I cant even tell you the last time LIVE has had a major issue. I hope you are not getting multiplayer match connection issues mixed with the actual LIVE service. And for once we are agreeing on something, there may be a lot of people signing on day one and could possibly cause some down time. But I have said this before, LIVE is their baby and adding the 300,000 servers will FOR SURE come in handy. And to say this comment...is just trolling.

I couldn't agree with you more SiNAR... Whatever issues you had Raptar with XBOX LIVE in the past was with 15,000 servers. With my experience online, I've had more issues with PSN being extremely slow, and a inferior server structure compared to LIVE. Now that we are moving on with 300.000 servers? I am going to stand by what I said before.. XBOX LIVE is going to have the best online gaming in the world. Even PSN wouldn't be able to do what Xbox Live can this coming Gen... and you can take that all the way to the bank.

I think the worst thing that could happen is the servers to crash. That would be devastating. It would mean that thousands of people can't sign up to Xbox live. That would certainly be a huge talking point for PS4 to say that their system is better. Hopefully it doesn't happen. I think that there might be connectivity issues though. That always happens.

Uh, so, Xbox Live parties randomly get disbanded? For everyone? Getting errors on the marketplace that prevent me from buying things? Sometimes just flat-out being unable to sign in, even though my internet connection is fine? Sure, sure, these are all problems with me, and not Xbox Live.

My biggest headache is probably going to be going to Gamestop and having to wait in line to pick my system up witha bunch of wild kiddos running amok while their parents do nothing to control them. Happens every time without fail. I "hope" the servers don't crash, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are issues because, well, there always seem to be on any huge ginormous launch. I will try to KCCO...and play something on single player if I can get connected. We'll see!

Our party group gets disbanded sometimes. But have you noticed it usually does it when someone new joins the party? Never had a problem signing in or not neing able to buy things.
