Can I play old games?

If I have a PS3 am I going to be able to play PS1 and PS2 games on it? Somebody told me you could only do that with a certain version of the PS3 but I don't know if that's true or not.
 
I have done it in the past but most times the quality is not nearly as good when the game does not match the system. Right now I am downgrading since I have only so much time in the day, the PS3 is being sold and the Xbox will be the only one to remain.
 
I have no play this game Because I don't know about this game .I like only cars game.
 
Jules, it seems like I saw somewhere that certain PS2 games are compatible with the PS3, but not all of them. If you visit Playstation's website, they have a search feature that will allow you to check and see if the PS2 game you have/want can be played on your PS3.
