Xbox One Can't hear others or talk when playing multiplayer

I have a xbox one x 4 k model- When i go to a multiplayer game, using headset, I can't hear anyone and when I talk nobody ever answers.
I bought Xbox gold & game pass. My settings look ok to. I'm new to this. Anyone have ideas? Thank you

Are you getting the game volume in the headset? You may need to click the middle button and go over to volume and check to see if the chat volume is up.

Game volume is fine. I checked the chat volume to. All ok
