Darksiders 2 Achievement Guide

Introduction
Darksiders 2 is a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] person hack'n'slash action RPG created by THQ. Obviously, this is a sequel to the original title “Darksiders” but you do not have to play the first one in order to enjoy all the beauties of “Darksiders 2”. However, if you are interested in deep storylines – playing the original “Darksiders” is highly recommended. The main game process is pretty much alike we saw in the first game: it is a pleasant combination of a slasher, RPG and action. Your character travels all over the world fighting enemies, solving puzzles, learning new skills and acquiring new equipment.
Before you start killing hordes of enemies you need to know that there is a plenty of collectibles in the game and in order to unlock all the achievements you will have to gather them all. This process might be very time consuming, so check out the corresponding achievement guides to find out more about their locations and make things easier.
It is highly recommended that you start your first game on Normal, complete it to the very end and then start a new game on Apocalyptic difficulty and play Darksiders 2 for the second time. Of course, you can attempt to finish it on Apocalyptic difficulty in your first playthrough but there is a great possibility that you are going to miss something. Plus, you will skip all the fun because playing on Apocalyptic difficulty is actually kind of hard.
At a certain point the game might get glitchy and while game's save system is only meant for 1, you can use additional equipment to back up your saves like USB or Cloud services. It’s always better to be on the safe side, don’t you find?
All in all there are 50 achievements in the game and they will bring you 1000 G points. Most of them can and should be unlocked during Single Player Campaign but 4 of those have to be finished online. For that matter you will need to complete The Crucible and gift a friend an item. This also required Crucible Pass but you will find it on the back of the game manual. It should take you about 40 hours to complete all the tasks and on the complexity scale I would give this game 5 out of 10. A greater part of the achievements is really easy but happens to be very time consuming.

Playthrough 1: Any difficulty/Collectibles and Side Quests

The best way to complete this game is to start playing on Normal difficulty and concentrate on collecting all items and completing all the side quests. There is an important thing to remember: your side quests and collectibles do NOT carry over! In other words it means that you will be forced to start everything all over again if you miss something. Or, as an option, download your saves from the Cloud you’re using or from the USB flash drive. So, before reaching the point of no return, make sure you have covered EVERYTHING: all side missions are finished and all collectibles are in your pockets. Of course, nothing stops you from gathering the collectibles on your next playthrough but, as it was mentioned before, you will be forced to replay everything from the very beginning. The point of “no return” is the Well of Souls where you go to fight the last boss.

Playthrough New Game+
If you haven’t tried to complete the game on Apocalyptic difficulty in your first playthrough, you should definitely do this right now. To make things flow faster, concentrate only on primary missions (considering that you’ve covered the rest during your first playthrough).

Conclusion
In general, the game isn’t that difficult and you will get used to the weird stuff in a while. However, it is time consuming especially if you go for collecting all the possible items and finishing all the side quests. Most of the gamers won’t enjoy playing the game for more than 1 time but I have to say that it is totally worth it. Changing difficulty levels makes a difference and enemies get tougher and harder to deal with.
Below you can find all the achievements you can earn in Darksiders 2. You get points for completing specific game tasks or by simply completing levels. There really are a number of ways you can unlock an achievement. This guide or list will help you figure that out faster. Check the description below to see how the achievement is unlocked. By obtaining points you’ll increase your Gamerscore associated with your Xbox Live Profile. Hey, some people call it bragging rights and others will call it good form when completing the game. It’s up to you decide if you want the extra motivation to go after these. Enjoy!

Darksiders 2 Achievement List

There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000 points

BFA (10)
Unlock Everything

This is pretty self-explanatory: you have to unlock all the achievements listed below. Technically, it is possible to complete this on your first playthrough but 2 are recommended. You can start and complete the game on Apocalyptic but it will be pretty challenging. Also, you will have to fully level to 30 for one of the achievements. All in all there are 50 achievements. When you finish the 49[SUP]th[/SUP] achievement – you will get this one automatically.

Full Potential (30)
Unlock All Combat Moves & Upgrades

You can unlock and purchase Combat Moves and upgrades only through trainers. There are two trainers in the game and you will come across them pretty often. The first one you are going to meet is Thane. He will be your first combat trainer but, unfortunately, he doesn’t happen to have all the necessary Combat Moves and Upgrades. But don’t worry: while you progress through the game to the Eternal Throne, you will meet the ghostly skeleton Draven. Not only he has the rest of Combat Moves and Upgrades but also stocks those offered by Thane. So, if you haven’t bought something from Thane, you can always get it from Draven. All in all there are 21 combat moves and upgrades and they will cost you exactly 150,000 Gilt.

Pay It Forward (10)
Gift An Item To A Friend

You won’t be able to unlock this achievement from the very beginning of the game and you will have to wait until you visit Tri-Stone for the first time. Before you attempt to do anything, make sure you redeem your code for the Crucible Pass. You will find the code on your manual in your game box. If, by any chance, you do not have this code, you will be asked to purchase it from the marketplace. Once you reach Tri-Stone, head to the snake emblem on your map also known as “Tome.” In order to interact with it press the “B” button. Now press “RB” and press right on your “LS”. Hit the “A” button then. Now you need to choose a friend who has played this game before. If you want to leave a message, press “X” and explain why you are so generous today. When you’re done, pick the desired item and press “Y” to send the gift. Usually gamers send some useless items or items that are not worth a lot. You should do the same unless you are feeling REALLY generous. You won’t be able to get the item back unless your friend or a person who gets the items sends its back to you. Yes, you can send the item randomly to anyone as long as you know his/her nick. Also, you can use your other Xbox accounts as long as they are silver or gold.

Feeding Time (20)
Level Up Your 1st Possessed Weapon

Before you attempt to level up your possessed weapon you will have to find one. Possessed weapons are really hard to get because they are rare drops from enemies or chests that are highlighted red when on the ground. Though, your first possessed weapon should come to you naturally. When you pick up a possessed weapon for the first time, you will get a notification menu telling you a short story about the weapon and its possibilities. After you finish reading, go into your menu and press “A” on the possessed weapon. This will bring another menu telling you a bit more about the weapon and things that can be done with it. Sacrifice some of your equipment in order to level up your possessed weapon. The moment you finish upgrading, the achievement will be yours.

Epic! (10)
Death Reaches Level 30

The good thing about this game is that your progress remains when you complete the game for the first time. As far as this is RPG, you gain levels as you kill monsters and complete different quests including the side ones. However, you won’t be able to reach Level 30 in one playthrough only. I, personally, managed to get to Level 23 only. In other words – that is why you need to play the game for the second time. So, when you finish your first playthrough, have some rest and then get back, start a New Game+ and continue playing on Apocalyptic difficulty. Sometime closer to the middle you are going to get your achievement.

Abracadabra (30)
Open all Death Tombs

All in all there are 4 Death Tombs in the game that you must open. They are a lot like treasure rooms and have lots of great things inside: new gear, special items and else. It is pretty easy to identify Death Tomb because they have big doors with a dragon statue above and colored gems on the door. In order to open this door you will have to collect 10 “Book of the Dead Pages.” After you have enough, go to Vulgrim and sell them to him. He will give you a key instead. To open all Death Tombs you will have to collect 40 “Book of the Dead Pages.”

Location 1: The Nook (Forge Lands)
Requires 10 “Book of the Dead Pages” to be opened.
To get to the first Death Tomb, fast travel to Lost Temple entrance and head south. You will find the door there. Once inside – take your time and collect everything you can find. Also, do not forget destroy the weapon stands, break all of the pots and pull the statue out from the middle. You will find a unique Blade Master talisman inside.

Location 2: Lair of the Deposed King
Requires 20 “Book of the Dead Pages” to be opened.
You will find the second Death Tomb at the very bottom of the Lair of the Deposed King. Enter the lair and keep going down the stairs until you reach the very bottom door. Destroy chests, pick up gold and do not forget to pick up the Demonheart Talisman.
Location 3: Lostlight
Requires 30 “Book of the Dead Pages” to be opened.
The third Death Tomb is near the Vulgrim shop. You will see this door on your left as you travel forward. Enter the tomb and claim some chests, two boatman coins and the last but not the least – Hoardseeker Talisman.
Location 4: Shadow's Edge
Requires 40 “Book of the Dead Pages” to be opened.
When you get here, travel towards Black Stone and you will see this door to your right. Here you will find lots of great things including a relic, two stones of power and a powerful secondary weapon – the Spear of Storms.
If you have some problems collecting “Book of the Dead Pages,” check out the second video to locate them all.

Is There Anyone Else? (30)
Complete The Crucible

In order to get access to this you need to use your Crucible Pass. It can be found on the back of the game manual. If you do not happen to have one – purchase it from the marketplace. Also, “The Crucible” won’t be at your disposal from the very beginning and you will have to progress through the game until you defeat the Guardian. Once you’re done – visit a tome. In the tome you will be able to start the quest. Your main task will be pretty simple: survive 100 waves of angry enemies. However, that won’t be physically possible unless you reach at least Level 25. The best idea to do that is to get Level 30 and only then start fighting the enemies. All 100 waves are divided into 4 groups:
Waves 1-25: This is the first set. You must defeat the Guardian.
Waves 26-50: You must defeat the Wailing Host
Waves 51-75: You must defeat Samael
Waves 76-100: Level up to 25
For more information you should check “The Secondary Adventures” post.

Respec Yourself (20)
Your First Respec

Talk to Vulgrim to respec your skills. You will find him in The Weeping Crag. You should come across him naturally as you progress through the main quest. He charges 1000 coins for every respec. Once you finish your first respec, you will get the achievement. If you are not interested in respecing yourself, you can always dashboard out and get your money back.

Bravo Old Chap (20)
Defeat Wicked K

In order to get access to this you need to use your Crucible Pass. It can be found on the back of the game manual. If you do not happen to have one – purchase it from the marketplace. You may get a possibility to fight this enemy after completing all of the Crucible waves in one visit. The good news is that you can die and restart the waves in 25. This is because of the fact that 100 waves are divided into 4 groups:
Waves 1-25: This is the first set. You must defeat the Guardian.
Waves 26-50: You must defeat the Wailing Host
Waves 51-75: You must defeat Samael
Waves 76-100: Level up to 25
Once Wicked K becomes available in the wave options – select him and start the fight. If you do everything right, you will see a big structure rising. Climb the structure and get on the top of it. At a certain point the game can get glitchy here. If it does – go ahead and reload. The good news is that once you unlock the righto fight Wicked K, you will always have the option to do that. Wicked K is very extraordinary character and I did enjoy his British manners during the fight. And even despite the fact that he blocks a lot – you won’t have any problems killing him fast and easy.

Grim Reaping (30)
Unlock Reaper Form

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will unlock the Reaper Form once you reach Level 6. Reaper Form is Death's special form just like Chaos Form is War's special form. If you want to get the most of it – try to get the Grim Talisman. This allows Death to gain reaper energy with both his primary and secondary weapons.

The Secondary Adventure (50)
Complete all Secondary Quests

Secondary quests will be marked in purple on your map. Usually, they are given by the NPC characters but some of them will appear randomly. If you want to get this achievement, you will have to finish them all in one playthrough. For more information you should check “The Secondary Adventures” post.

A True Horseman (90)
Complete the game on APOCALYPTIC

Apocalyptic difficulty is the hardest difficulty you can start your game on. Of course, you can start playing on Apocalyptic right away but I would recommend to leave it for the next playthrough. During your first playthrough choose “Normal” difficulty and complete the game. This will help you to get up to Level 23. After that, start a New Game+ on Apocalyptic difficulty and this time you will be fully leveled with all the great gear on your character. During your second playthrough you can concentrate on completing main quests only. This should help to get things done faster.

Four My Brother (90)
Complete the game on NORMAL

It is highly recommended to complete the game on Normal at your first playthrough. This will help you to deal with the enemies fast and concentrate on completing all the other things like collecting items and completing side quests. When you complete your first playthrough on Normal – start the New Game+ and continue playing on Apocalyptic.

A Stroll In The Demonic Park (30)
Complete the game on any difficulty setting

When you complete the game on any difficulty you will get this achievement. If you are going for “Four My Brother” or for “A True Horseman” achievements, you should get this one anyway.

Secret Achievements

All You Can Eat Buffet (30)
Complete Sticks and Stones

Once you have obtained this quest, you will have to feed Blackroot with Enchantment Stones. You can find Blackroot in The Fjord. In order to obtain the collectible, you need to shoot it with your gun – Redemption. Well, there are other ways to collect them but this one seems to be the best. In order to complete the quest you will have to feed them all to Blackroot. There are 69 Enchantment Stones:
34 Mystic Stonebites
25 Power Stonebites
10 Resistance Stonebites

The task of this Side Quest is to defeat Thane and listen him talking about four creatures. When you get all the necessary information from Thane, start your hunt for the 4 creatures.
Bheithir - Located in basement of The Nook. Must have Deathgrip to fight.

Lord of the Black Stone (10)
Complete Lord of the Black Stone

This is story related and can’t be missed. “Lord of the Black Stone” is a part of the main story line. You will come across it before you actually complete the game. Progress though the level and when you’re done – the pop up message will appear on your monitor.

The Mad Queen (10)
Complete The Mad Queen

This is story related and can’t be missed. “The Mad Queen” quest is really short. And the only thing you are supposed to do is to talk to Lilith and gain the Phasewalker. Get to Blackstone and enter the fortress. Now, go through the East door and up the stairs to talk to Lilith. After the cut scene you should get a pop up message notifying you about the successful completeness.

Stains of Heresy (10)
Complete Stains of Heresy

This is story related and can’t be missed. “Stains of Heresy” quest is a part of the main story line. You will come across it near the end of the game. In order to complete it you will have to solve lots of puzzles.

Mass Ruckus (10)
Equip elite items to all slots

In order to complete this achievement you will need to equip elite armor in every possible slot. All in all there are 7 slots you need to fill with purple items. They are:
1. Scythe;
2. Secondary Weapon;
3. Shoulder;
4. Armor;
5. Gloves;
6. Boots;
7. Talisman.
These are not supposed to be specific items or items that form a costume. Just as long as they are purple – they will work great. Elite items are pretty hard to get and usually you obtain them randomly from chests or enemies. There is also a possibility to buy random elite items from Vulgrim's Shop but you never know what he is going to have with him this time. You can always dashboard a piece if it’s not what you’re looking for or play the game on a separate save if things are really bad.
If you are missing something, try to visit Vulgrim's Shop. Elite items are not cheap but if you sell all the unnecessary stuff from your inventory, you can actually buy something and fill the empty slots. You can also attempt to trade with other players but there is a very little possibility that someone will give you an Elite item for free. But, if it’s your friend – why not?

Diamond Geezertron (10)
Unlock the final skill in either skill tree

From your character’s menu you can see that there are two different skill trees. They are called “Reaper Storm” and “Frenzy” or also can be recognized as “Harbinger” and “Necromancer.” You will naturally invest skill points in the skill tree but in order to unlock this achievement you are supposed to be at least Level 20. If you do well – you should unlock this in one playthrough.

Defeat Basileus

This is story related and can’t be missed. Basileus is the third boss you are supposed to find and sacrifice to the Lord of Bones. You will find Basileus in “The Court of Bones” quest. Defeating him won’t be hard as far as Basileus is kind of straightforward boss. During the fight he will jump on the spider for a couple of times but it will only make things easier to complete.

To Move a Mountain (10)
Complete To Move a Mountain

This is story related and can’t be missed. “To Move a Mountain” quest is a part of the main story line. As for the achievement, you will get it after awakening the Warden in The Lost Temple. After that get back to Tri-Stone and turn the quest in. Here you go – 10G points for your amazing effort.

Gnomad (40)
Complete GnoMAD

This is another side quest that is strictly dependent on collectibles. Your task is to collect Gnome figurines. All in all there are 4 of those.
1. Gnome Figurine #1. Location: City of the Dead
You will find the very first Gnome figurine in the City of the Dead. Reach the balcony in the upper levels. Step on the pressure plate in order to reveal and flip the hand-holds. Have one soul stay hanging on that flipping hand-hold. Now switch to the other soul to release the plate. This will cause the hand-hold flip back inside the walls. Again – switch back to the hanging soul and loot the secret chamber. There you will find your first Gnomad Gnome.
2. Gnome Figurine #2. Location: Ivory Citadel
This will be pretty easy to get: purify the water in the Western Tower and then check the Northern cavern. You will find the second Gnomad Gnome there.
3. Gnome Figurine #3. Location: Weeping Crag
Open the only portal in the dungeon to access the secret treasure trove. Swim in the shallows, northern pool then swim south. Before the water outlet you will find the third Gnomad Gnome.
4. Gnome Figurine #3. Location: The Black Stone

Fire of the Mountain (10)
Complete Fire of the Mountain

This is story related and can’t be missed. “Fire of the Mountain” quest is a part of the main story line. Fire of the Mountain will also be your very first Primary Quest. You will get it from Alya. Complete the quest and talk to her. This will finish the quest and will give you the next one. When you’re done talking – the pop up message will appear notifying about the successfully unlocked achievement.

The Triple Lindy (10)
Complete 3 different high dives in the Foundry

This achievement can be unlocked during the mission where you need to awaken the Guardian in "The Foundry" area. While progressing through the mission, you will come your second Heart Stone. This area is outside and has an amazing lake. Swim across the lake and climb on the wall. Now choose one out of three balconies and jump off it. Repeat the procedure 2 more times but remember to change the balconies every time you jump of them. Those have to be three different balconies, otherwise the achievement won’t count. It might be a good strategy to start from the closest balcony and then move to the next one and to the last one.

By Your Command (10)
Collect the Interdiction Stone

This is story related and can’t be missed. After you gain audience with The Lord of Bones, he will give you another quest to complete. Your task will be to finish the quest and collect the Interdiction Stone afterwards.

Death Will Tear Us Apart (10)
Collect the Soul Splitter

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will get this achievement automatically after you complete the “Court of Bones” which happens to be a part of the main story line. Soul Splitter is an ability granted to the First Horseman, Death, after he retrieves the Dead Court for the Lord of Bones (ruler of the Kingdom of the Dead). Soul Splitter allows Death to utilize similar abilities to Interdiction all by himself. When it is used, Death's soul is removed from his body, which transforms into stone, and then split into two. The result is two "Deaths" formed of spiritual energy, one green and one purple. The statue that represents Death's real body is invulnerable and it can be used to weigh down pressure plates, and can be moved if left on a movable object such as an elevator, but is otherwise useless.

Looks Familiar (10)
Collect Redemption

This is story related and can’t be missed. Complete the Primary Quest “Fire of the Mountain” and get back to talk to Alya. For your efforts she is going to give you a gun called “Redemption.” Redemption is one of Strife's two revolvers, the other being Mercy. Unlike Mercy, Redemption has a 10-round capacity with a 5-second delay before Death reloads. Also unlike Mercy, Redemption has no set fire rate, meaning it can unload all 10 bullets slowly or extremely fast, depending on how good your trigger finger is. Another difference is that Mercy is a quadruple barrel revolver while Redemption is a single barrel revolver.

Tearing Time A New One (10)
Collect the Phasewalker

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will obtain this item after completing the quest “The Mad Queen”. The Phasewalker in given to Death by Lilith. It allows your character to explore The Black Stone in a time before it fell to the Corruption, following Samael's disappearance. Phasewalker is an enhanced version of the Voidwalker. This item can now tear a void in the present and the past, allowing for time travel.

I Can Has Cake? (10)
Collect the Voidwalker

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will get this item while completing the primary quest “Stains of Heresy.” You will put your hands on the item in the Ivory Citadel and it will be pretty useful out there. The Voidwalker is a supernatural gauntlet that can open portals at designated locations allowing War to traverse between them. It also allows other objects to be transported through these portals, or even opening one portal via another.

The Spectral Touch (10)
Collect Deathgrip

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will get Deathgrip in The Foundry. Its function is pretty similar to the Abyssal Chain: it allows you to pull Death to higher ledges or beams he could not otherwise reach. It also can be used to pull Death’s enemies closer. But, if they are large – Deathgrip will pull Death to them instead.

Pathfinder (10)
First use of Fast Travel

You will get a possibility to use Fast Travel only after you reach The Cauldron on your main quest. Once you appear there – press “Back” on your D-pad and go to your map. Press “LS” in order to toggle the Overworld Map. Choose your location and press “X” on any of the icons. Fast Travel might become your best helper in the game if you use it right. One of the most useful things you can do with the Fast Travel is to get back to the merchant, buy a few potions, restore health and get back fighting.

The Big Boss (20)
Defeat Absalom

This is story related and can’t be missed. Absalom is very last boss in the game. Luckily, he has no other forms which means your killing strategy will be pretty simple: slay him to beat the game and get the achievement. Frankly speaking – I was really surprised to see the last boss in the game to be so easy to fight with.

Soul Crushing (20)
Defeat The Wailing Host

This is story related and can’t be missed. The Wailing Host is the boss for “City of the Dead.” Your boss killing strategy shouldn’t be different from the one you usually use: just keep attacking The Wailing Host until it sends some skeletons. Kill the skeletons and concentrate on his mask. At the moment of highest vulnerability press the “B” button to rip his mask off. Repeat this strategy for a couple of times to get things done.

It's Not Over (20)
Defeat Samael

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will face Samael almost at the very end of the last primary quests in the game. To be more specific – you will see him when you will have to get the Demon Key. Defeating Samael won’t be easy because the fighting strategy he uses is kind of complicated. First of all – he teleports. Well, the distance is not that big but still makes things kind of harder. Then – he will cover the whole ground with fire spots that are really hard to avoid. You can try to roll over but usually they appear on the spot you’ve rolled to. But, if you keep being a classical warrior and hit him when he’s not aggressive and dodge when he fights back – you shouldn’t have any problems killing the boss. The very same second you defeat him and a cut scene starts – you will get the achievement.

Clipped Wings (20)
Defeat Archon

This is story related and can’t be missed. You will face Archon while completing the “Stains of Heresy” primary quest. The easiest and the most effective way to attack Archon is when he’s on the ground. Try to avoid whatever he throws at you and get closer when the shield is down. When Archon gets in the air – just dodge around avoiding (again) whatever he throws at you. When the Force Shield is down – use the Deathgrip to get closer and hit him for a couple of times.

Dust to Dust (20)
Defeat the Guardian

This is story related and can’t be missed. As you progress through the mission, you will awake this giant sooner or later. If you’ve seen the trailer you should definitely recognize the Guardian: enormously big, made of stone and smashes everything with a hammer. You will face this giant in Stonefather's Vale. Your first fighting strategy will look pretty simple: you need to ride your demonic horse and avoid Guardian’s attacks. This won’t be hard – just keep on riding. When he attempt to hit you with his hammer – ride closer to him shooting at the highlighted spots. Now use your Deathgrip and attack the stone. Get down and ride away on your horse. At a certain points the Guardian will start throwing big yellow pinned ball at you. This ball will go after you no matter what but you can actually use it as your allies. When the ball is out – try to dodge around and form a line of you – The Guardian – and the ball. If you do it right the ball will hit the Guardian and he will fall down. Ride close to him, climb his hammer and attack the stone. This will kill the Guardian and will give you the awaited achievement.

Crow Carrion (20)
Defeat the Crowfather

This is story related and can’t be missed. The strategy here, as well as the enemy, is pretty straightforward: hit and run, attack and dodge. Crowfather is not that big of a fighter and all his attacks are direct. When you defeat him, interact with the crawling boss and after that you will get your achievement.
