9 out of 10 - EGMThe mix of ideas at play in Darksiders 2 could have turned out to be a disaster, but Vigil stitches it all together expertly. From the corrupted idyll of The Forge Lands, to the twilit expanses of The Land of the Dead, to the thin, broken line between Heaven and Hell, Death's grand adventure ranks among the best we've seen or will see in 2012.

7.5 out of 10 - Official Xbox MagazineAfter finishing Darksiders, I hoped the sequel would continue with the Four Horsemen riding together in aid of War. 7.5 out of 10 - IGNWhile it succeeds in many respects as a standalone game, Darksiders II disappoints as a sequel. Death’s side story proves less eventful than War’s mainline quest, with fewer interesting sights and scenarios, plus boss showdowns that are generally less memorable than Darksiders’.

Despite its problems, I was compelled onward in my quest with Death because Darksiders II is simply a fun game. The RPG elements and to-the-point action all make for some solid gaming, glitches and all. It’s a shame so many glaring issues hold such an ambitious endeavor back from the greatness its developers were clearly aiming for. Still, if you love action adventure games, it’s certainly worth checking out - but don’t expect it to rival the masterpieces it will inevitably call to mind.
