Xbox One Good move to release after the PS4?

Other than all the other things to argue over concerning the two systems I thought these were some good questions:

Is it a good move to release the ONE after the PS4? Why would they consciously make such a decision if the system has been ready to launch? Could it possibly have something to do with combining the desire for the system with the money tossing holiday that is Black Friday (or whatever day they are choosing this year)?

The simple answer is that they know that regardless of the unfavorable marketing, MSFT is still favored in North America. Sony is only releasing first in North America and a few other markets, while MSFT will beat it to launch in other markets.

Does it even matter which one is released first? People that want a PS4 will grab one, regardless of it being released first or later. Similarly, I doubt people that want an X1 would get a PS4 just because it comes out sooner.

If they were released months apart, now that would be a problem for one of them.

The first shipment consoles are sold already from preorders. I think microsoft wanted to wait as long as possible to stock up and have some on the shelves so if you didnt preorder you can still get one

In the back on my mind, I was always hoping MS would push the release date to the same date at the last moment.

Actually, it is a good thing Microsoft waited. Like others have said, it won't make much of a difference when it comes out since most people already know what system they are buying. I'm sure, a few folks that were on the fence about both systems may be swayed knowing the end of this week, they can score a PS4. But, I'm sure Microsoft will be fine.

A week will make no difference. Each console is sold out completely. When 360 came out a year before PS3 it was a huge deal. A week won't matter. Nobody is going to switch brands over a week wait.

I'm not so sure it is a good thing, but I don't think it is a huge deal. Considering their PR problems and their bigger price tags, Microsoft could have benefited from being out before the PS$ and being the only console available if only for a week or two.

Benefitted how exactly? Both consoles are sold out, so what difference would the week make?

Well, it's not good or bad, they just are making sure they have their stock ready for the pre-orders and that everything is ready to go, specially with the online servers and what not, seeing how they are dependent on them for the first day patch. I just hope they don't mess this up with some hardware problem.

To those that argue that there is not enough time between the two to make a real difference I present the fifteen to twenty dollar rental in order to see something before it is officially released. Something I would never do but there is clearly a market for it.
I think releasing something sooner is a positive for the company that does so. Could they have made it a month? I am sure they could have however that would have inevitably affected the holiday sales numbers.

Some UK retailers are still selling PS4 preorders for launch day (ShopTo, for example). I can't find anywhere still selling XBO Day One editions though (although for all we know, Sony could have produced 100% more consoles etc etc).

i think the PS3 being so much later to the party was the reason the xbox 360 caught on so well. But if i recall correctly it was MUCH later than a few days like this generation. I dont think it will make a difference this time around. There will still be a clear winner, but it wont be decided by launch date.

I think its all about who releases first, people with the money will want to spend the money and not wait.

Could you imagine if they dropped on the same day? All the fan boys mixed together in line, at midnight, all hopped up on their energy drinks. At least this way you will be waiting in line with like minded people on 11/22.

I don't think the gap is enough to affect the sales or perception in a big way. The only way it might impact sales would be if PS4 turns out to be underwhelming with respect to the expectations and that would favor X1, but I doubt this would happen.

I agree... At this point, the only thing that possibly sway fanboys of either system is the lack of really good games and not being satisfied with the launch titles.

All things considered I think it's the best possible move Microsoft could make giving their situation. They seem to be taking a wait and see approach. By this I mean that they are essentially giving gamers and critics a week to sit with the PS4 and formulate an opinion on the product. This means that Microsoft is essentially hinging their console launch success of the hopes that PS4 will receive at the very least a mildly positive to split reception from critics and gamers, thus pushing the consumers who are currently on the fence and/or waiting for black Friday into the welcoming arms of Microsoft.

I agree. And from what I've seen today, the reaction to the reviews as been mediocre. The real conclusion will happen this weekend when gamers get their hands on the PS4. I've read all kinds of stuff today from multiple PS4's breaking (for those that got it early), to poor reviews for Knack, all kinds of stuff. Even Kotaku gave PS4 a 'don't buy' conclusion.

I first said this months ago, but I firmly believe people will be WOW'd when they get their hands on the Xbox One on the 22nd.

At least all of this stuff makes for an entertaining read, all of the reviews and comments across the net. :)
