I remember being so impressed with GTA's graphics when it first came out. I would talk on and on about how great it is compared to San Andreas. Well... it's still better than San Andreas but the graphics are so bleak and lifeless!! There seems to be hardly any color in anything. It's all sort of a gray-green tint.

It is now what I'd call a "classic" game. Sorry to do this to you Niko, but you've been replaced by the new team: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor.

Of course it looks it's age. All of the Rockstar games look dated as soon as they come out, because they focus the graphical quality of their games for last, what they want is to create a unique experience with something as huge and diverse like a city. And if you are playing GTA for the graphics, you are doing it wrong.

I'm going to have to agree with Black - GTA isn't about looking great (although they have done very well in my opinion), it is about creating a great experience that you're going to remember. I mean if I had a complaint it'd be about the horrible steering on GTA IV, I mean Vice city was better and it had underpowered steering on most of the vehicles. But yeah GTA IV was about a great soundtrack, building relationships, and blowing things up with bazookas - particularly in multiplayer.

I have both the computer and Xbox version and while it may be true that the console game is indeed showing it's age, the computer version looks far better (might even go so far as to say next generation worth) then any console would ever hope to manage. But I don't think the graphics were the highest priority on Rockstar's list (unlike GTA V) :p

What do you expect? Of course it ages the more you play games that are more modern, have better graphics and so on.

gta 4 did well in my opinion based on the year it came out. Besides its going to look more dated when you see trailers of gta v a lot maybe that's why.

Back in the day it looked great, but it's aged on 360 and Rockstar have never been known for their great graphics (RDR looked pretty bad in my opinion).

I don't play it on my 360 anymore, but I still play it on my PC and it still looks good. I've also experimented with a few graphical mods that make it look even better. It's a pretty bad port, but it's more than playable and great fun still.

if you like GTA4 but hate the graphics, grab it for your PC and use the icenhancer mods

One must need a beast of a rig to run GTA4 like that, since even running it at all is a wonder because of just how awful the port is.

Anyway, I agree with OP. GTAV and GTAIV aren't even that much different when it comes to graphics, but GTAIV seems to have some crappy filter on that makes everything desaturated while GTAV has no such filter so that it looks much more colorful.

GTAV is just superior in every single way to me (well, except MAYBE radio stations)

Wow, that mod makes it look brilliant. It really depends on the TV too. It looks awesome on my sister's super fancy TV, but meh on my crappy old boxy TV. I'm going to get a flat screen for my room soon so I am hoping that will help kick it up a notch. I do like GTA IV because I love NYC and it's like I never left the city, but IV is just so detailed.
