So you’ve managed to get your hands on a new Xbox One this holiday; how about you let us help you in figuring out what goodies to fill that precious hard drive space with. Xbox One Forums presents, “Your Guide to Apps”.
We’ll start out with the most dominant, the video steaming apps.
Netflix- Video streaming of new and older movies and TV shows, as well as Netflix original programming.
-Cost: $9.99/month
Hulu Plus- Watch current and classic TV shows, including current seasons of new shows.
-Cost: $7.99/month (limited advertisements)
Redbox Instant- Watch the latest movies steaming straight to your console and also enjoy an included 4 DVD credits which allow you to rent movies from any local Redbox location.
-Cost: $8.00/ month
Amazon Prime Instant Video- Amazon Prime comes with many features like free two-day shipping on prime items or select fee books from the Kindle store; but the best feature is streaming a huge library of movies and TV shows available in HD.
-Cost: $79/year
Target Ticket- Rent, buy, download, and stream tons of movies with no subscription needed. Simply pay for what you watch,
Vudu- One of the largest collections of HD entertainment comes to Xbox Live. There are no additional fees or subscriptions and so you simply pay for what you watch. You can choose between renting or buying any of the movies in the collection.
Xbox Video- Enjoy instant HD streaming video of the latest movies and shows, including last night’s episodes. Simply pay for what you watch.

Twitch- Although the Xbox One cannot yet stream to Twitch, it can enjoy of the glorious streams directly to the console. Watch all the latest gameplay and everything else available all via the Xbox One
Ted- Enjoy talks from a collection of over 1600 focused on everything from tech and business to medical and educational.
YouTube- Unlimited access to the largest collection of videos on the Internet all in glorious HD.
Let’s move on to Sports.
ESPN- This app offers the latest scores, news, and stats all focused around the teams you care about. It also comes with limited access to the ESPN website as well as access to WatchESPN which offers tons of live content and original programming
NFL- Track your fantasy or the latest scores and news all from the comfort of your living room, via the Xbox One App.
Univision Deportes: Premiere coverage of the best soccer around the world with all the news and highlights.
Not a TV or video person? How about some music?
Muzu.TV- Enjoy access to thousands of music videos as well as the latest news and interviews.
Xbox Music- Unlimited access to all the music you could possibly want all ad-free. Enjoy the ability to create your own playlist or download the music for some offline listening. Music Pass subscription required.

More interested in creating your own content than view other people’s work? No problem.
Upload Studio: Edit and create gameplay clips and even add effects or commentary, then upload it for all to enjoy.
Skydrive: Create videos or content using ‘Upload Studio’ and then upload it to Skydrive to have instant access to the content from your PC or smart device. Once in Skydrive feel free to upload it to YouTube or any other location your desire.
Want to communicate with friends and family? We got you.
Skype- Chat with anyone you like in a visually stunning HD resolution or enjoy video group chats. You can also ‘Snap’ Skype and voice chat with friends while gaming or watching a movie.
Last, but certainly not least, we have some basic utilities. Many basic features are missing on the Xbox One when you first set it up and so additional downloads are required to obtain some basic functions.
The first two are self-explanatory:
-Bluray Disc Player
-Audio CD Player
The next is not as self explanatory, but can be very useful if this is your first experience with the Xbox One or Kinect. It will guide you through many useful features and commands.
-Speech Tutorial
Finally we have the ‘Uplay’ app, which many of you may be familiar with.
Uplay is a property of Ubisoft and the app deals in a virtual currency that can be obtained by performing certain task in Ubisoft games. The currency can they be used to unlock special in game content in all current and future Ubisoft games. For example, currently you can unlock special skins, weapons, and sails for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
