The very first console will be handed over to a lucky fan at midnight on the evening of November 21st in New Zealand, which will be the first country to launch the Xbox One thanks to its proximity to the International Date Line. Since the world’s very first official Xbox One console is a hot commodity, it needs to be protected from thieves and insidious reverse engineers. What better way to do that than by sticking it in a waterproof chest and dropping into a tank filled with sharks?

While the sharks don’t have laser beams attached to their heads, if someone was to attempt to snatch the game station, they would have to dive into a tank filled with 20 tiger sharks at the SEA LIFE Aquarium in Auckland, NZ and make it to the surface before getting nipped by one of the tank’s inhabitants. It’s an adventure worthy of a gamer and, if someone was able to pull of the heist, it would make a better story than the guy who was accidentally shipped a console two weeks early by Target.

The sharks will guard their treasure for a week, before its official release. Until then, they will smoke you on Call of Duty 4.

Leave it to Microsoft to find new and innovative ways to build hype and grasp people's attention. This comes shortly after the "Giant Xbox One" showed up in Vancouver. The cogs are definitely in motion and the gears grinding with only a little over a week left till this grand machine hits our homes. Will you be attending any of the planned midnight events? Let us know! I'll be at my local Gamestop trying to keep warm with the other Xbots.

Very interesting. I read about this earlier but I didn't see a photo of the protected system. Not sure I'd want one out of the box. Part of the fun getting the system is unboxing.

That's pretty cool! I will also be in line waiting for my Xbox at my local GameStop. It sounds like at mine they will start handing out group numbers around 6pm.. Then starting at 1130ish they will call you in by group numbers.. Has anyone ever done a midnight launch by GameStop? Could you give any details of what I should do or if the group numbers are random?

My original plan was to show up around 530 and hope to get one of the first group numbers.. But if I find out its random than it won't matter

Bring a chair! lol That's the first rule. They usually make the groups are you finalize the receipt. So even if you have paid in full, they will take you inside and close out the transaction as if you had picked it up. Then you go back on the line in your groups and at midnight they will start handing out the consoles (games, etc). The idea is that once its midnight they don't need to go through the transaction process and instead can just give you your stuff. Once you have your group number on your receipt you don't need to stay in the line until about 11:30 when you should be back in your spot.

Copy thanks for the info

I think that is just plain silly honestly, I mean sure it is kind of an interesting notion but pretty wacky when you think about it. I guess sometimes you just have to go big or go home when the market is so competitive.

This is a bit silly, and I don't understand why sharks.
But meh, I guess it's just a way to promote the console. I really want to see how they're going to unbox that :D

This is the most retarded thing I've read all day. Congratulations, Microsoft.

i saw this today lol its pretty stupid if you ask me, whats so cool about having it in a shark tank? lol oh well i rather have mine and get it in the box so i can unbox it

I wonder if some people will actually say "Oh really" and manage to steal it. Every product launch should have an event like this.

If anyone does try and gets eaten up by sharks... people will put the blame on Microsoft.

haha
looks like Microsoft's army of advertisers and selling managers are up at their most, planning something like this.
Such a show! People discussing it, rumors float, everything bubbles, and just waits impatiently for the release date.
And that case looks quite cheap , IMHO

Just as Jedioutcast said - all is in the unboxing :)

Microsoft has confirmed that the launch will be televised on Spike TV.

If you don't get Spike you'll be able to watch the fun streamed on Xbox Live or xbox.com (where you can find more info).

The event starts at 11 PM ET on November 21st.

I scheduled it to record on my TiVo Roamio.

Good looking out rkkeller! Yes, I'll probably be in line around that time, however, I'll either DVR it or bring a smart device to watch it while standing waiting for my system.
