Lollipop Chainsaw is cheery and obscene, but it doesn't hit its marks consistently enough to be more than a passing amusement.

Lollipop Chainsaw doesn’t even attempt to differentiate itself from the genre, and most of what it does try new in the realm of its characters and writing ultimately ends up taking away from an incredible-on-paper action game.

Though the writing can be entertaining, Juliet spends the bulk of her time slaying zombies. Combat doesn’t have the depth of a game like Bayonetta, but it requires more than simple button mashing.

There’s definitely a specific, intended audience for Lollipop’s quick-hit gameplay — those who relish stylish score-hunting over the more fluid combo-complexity of the game’s closest cousin,Bayonetta. But a little less flash and way more substance would’ve made this slaughterfest more memorable for all gamers.

Lollipop Chainsaw could have been something really special—had a variety of unpolished elements and outdated gameplay mechanics not gotten in the way. While this cheerleader is overflowing with heart, soul, and spirit, her sloppy execution unfortunately keeps spoiling her routine.
