Small gripes aside, you shouldn’t miss Marvel vs. Capcom 3 if you have even a passing interest in Capcom, Marvel, the fighting genre, or good games. This pugilistic prize mimics the polished, accessible reinvention of Street Fighter IV, forming another strong leg for the resurrected fighting genre to stand on.

The magic of the game is in its approachability. Rendered in 3D but played on a 2D plane like Street Fighter IV, MvC3 is the onion of fighting games

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 doesn’t disappoint as a fighting game, even after a decade of waiting. It’s very much the same insane concept we know and love, which isn’t a bad thing. By drastically revising the roster, what’s old is definitely new again. The balance and depth in the game is astonishing, and even the odd characters have their distinct charms.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 delivers a fast-paced, accessible game that is both rewarding and beautiful. The problem is that it doesn’t offer much variety in its gameplay modes.
