Xbox One Microsoft asks gamers to help shape future Xbox One updates

It's a wonderful idea as long as Microsoft actually listens to its customers and fans. Otherwise, the company could easily ignore the gamers and do whatever they'd like, which would result in more of the same. Microsoft often creates some decent updates, but there's always room for improvement, and everyone knows that.

Kinda seems as if this is happening. Microsoft has made several changes that originally they had a hard nosed stance on (i.e.: not separating Kinect from the XB1, used games, etc...).

Great initiative by Microsoft, it's show that they are committed to listening to their consumers.
Whether they then take the opinions into account of if they are just looking for justification to do whatever they were going to do anyway it remains to be seen.

You're right, but just think about what would have happened if Microsoft hadn't changed its stance on used games and always online requirements. Sony would have creamed Microsoft in sales by an even larger margin. I think they made those particular changes out of necessity rather than really wanting to please the fans and customers. Separating the Kinect from the One was also a profit-driven decision. They couldn't afford to sell the One with the Kinect at a much lower price, so they took it away and took away voice commands by default. Doing so allowed them to sell many more consoles at a lower price without sacrificing too much in profits.

Definitely a good idea, often tmes companies waste billions on R and D in some lab somewhere only to unveil something that utterly flops, with no user or consumer input and they wonder why they fail... but this now is a great idea, what better way to make something people want but to ask them...

"Either get rid of kinect, or make it worth using. Your choice MS"

Let's just bombard them with this.

Not trying to be negative or anything, but I think it's just a way to increase buzz for the xb1. I really don't see MS listening to the real everyday gamers. Everything is done with strategy and marketing in mind. It's all about the maximum profit margin. At the end of the day, MS is going to do whatever will bring in the most cash, and unfortunately, what's most profitable for them is to focus on generic universally appealing features. They've already got hardcore gamers hooked, and we already know what we want is not likely to be the same thing that casual gamers want.

Its about time they let the consumers (who matter the most) give an opinion on what they will be buying. I think this will produce better results in the end.

Well, I'd say that Microsoft has always listened to the opinions of its customers. What matters is how often the company actually takes that information to heart and uses it to improve the product. We'll see soon enough whether the company is actually taking user feedback and using it to create more valuable and helpful updates. Either way, Microsoft's track record is a little mixed in this regard, so moving forward, I'm not sure what to expect.

Well, let's put it like this. My hopes are not high.

It's fantastic that Microsoft is finally listening to the consumers for a change. I guess they are starting to learn from their mistakes. Lately, Microsoft have been making a lot of decisions which I think are on the right track. Let's hope they'll keep on course if this works out for them.

If they truly do take into account what we suggest, and make it happen, that would be awesome. I wish more companies like EA would listen to their fan bases. There quite a few small addons that could make the Xbox One amazing, and I hope the guys over at Microsoft manage to pull it off.
