Just a funny little post to let you know that Microsoft now owns Xbone.com and Xbone.net. I totally understand why they did it....I'm just asking myself why I didn't think to register those domains first?!

News of the domain registration comes just days after Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb took to popular gaming forum NeoGAF to express his displeasure over the nickname."I don't like it," says Hryb, before noting the nickname is cheeky. "It disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product." While Microsoft may dislike the nickname, by taking over the domain name it prevents others from creating a joke or parody site.

Ahhh welcome to neogaf where any troll against Microsoft is encouraged and supported by its community, but a slight against Sony, even if its imagined earns a ban.

Well I can see sme troll making a sight called Xbone where it has pics of dongs boneing x1's.....that's the hardcore gamers these days lol

I will point to this article, and TheVerge failing to moderate the trolls in the thread of an example of how TheVerge is not a reliable news source. They should at least lock the thread...

There was a post on 4chan I saw via Reddit, now you should take that with a grain of salt of course, but they claimed that Microsoft was into the name because they thought "Xbox One" would lead to people calling it "The One" like they do with "The 360" and it hasn't panned out as planned, haha. Of course, it's all speculation, but it seems plausible to me. At the very least, it's a funny theory. Supposedly the Xbox team wanted to call it "Infinity". Good stuff.

Well, they wouldn't have owned it if people aren't calling this Xbone. Congratulations internet, you won today.

...I can't believe nobody was bright enough to purchase this domain in advance.... Can you imagine the email or phone call? "Hello. I'm calling on behalf of Microsoft. Would you be interested in selling your domain?" Screw that. Can you imagine the check? Tch. Oh well.

So, does that mean that Google is going to step in and buy a domain, like maybe Playstation.com? Or do they already? I am always in the dark about such things...

Xbone.com sounds like it should be a porn site involving ex-girlfriend porn. Make them 'ex-girlfriend gamer girls' and that would be one absurdly popular site. I can see why they'd register those names, it's a tactic to avoid exactly this situation.

ARGH! That is a perfect idea! ... So how long until eX-bone, eXbon, and EX-Bone become a thing do you think? Because if the Internet has taught me one thing its to make dang sure you get all the related domain titles.

Honestly, I would rather just say Xbox One. Whenever I say Xbone, my perverted mind kicks in and thinks of a boner. Maybe that's just me?

The problem is that would probably get sued over it, because that is how big corporations work.

But yeah, they just can't take a joke, i guess. This won't stop people calling it like that, and maybe will just encourage them further.

Yeah, Xbone just looks like "ex-bone" to me. Could you imagine if xbone.com was already a porn site? Think of the headline -- "Microsoft purchases porn site for company use"

My preferred shorthand to use is XB1.

That's not how lawsuits work - if someone purchases a domain then it's theirs. Now you could possibly build a case if the domain title were the actual company title or product i.e. Xbox One.com - however Xbone is not a licensed property of Microsoft (at this time) so you couldn't sue based on that. Besides the negative publicity would not in anyway be worth it.

I hate the term XBone...It just makes me think of a skull and crossbones, or just a bone.

And that is the opening screen Assassin Creed 4 needs to jump on - get on this somebody! In other news this really isn't a surprise all in all - I mean when you name the fourth console of a line Xbox One ... what do you expect?

Even though they own the domain name, it doesn't stop the internet fanboys from posting funny memes using the word Xbone on other websites. It's a futile effort to try and prevent negative publicity on the Internet when you can't control it.

Um...that's what I thought of too! Man, my mind needs to clean it's act up! lol
