Minecraft: Smelting

Smelting and Cooking, basically, are referred to the very same process in Minecraft. On the top of that it is often called melting, baking, burning, or even producing. So, if you hear one of those words, it is very likely that someone is talking about Smelting. The reason for this multiword description is that Smelting process includes lots of processes and whether you melt Golden blocks to get Iron Ingots or insert Raw Chicken to make it hot and tasty – you still do it on one table. Well, not the most hygienic idea ever but as far as there are no viruses in the game, there is nothing to worry about.
In order to start smelting you will need two things:
- Furnace;
- Fuel Source.
Furnace can be easily made out of 8 Cobblestones. For that matter you will need a Crafting Table.

And here’s how the Smelting Grid looks like:

Input > Output

As for the Fuel Source, it can be almost anything that burns in a real words starting with Coal and Wood and all the way up to Lava Buckets and Furniture
Now, to start smelting you will have to follow these 3 steps.
1. In the first box you input an item that is going to be heated;
2. In the box right under the item you put a power source. Usually, it’s coal.
3. After the smelting process is complete, check out the “Output” box.
Furnace won’t stop Smelting even if you leave the menu and go outside. But, it will be set on pause if you go too far or leave the dimension the furnace is located in. The Furnace will continue working and won’t stop as long as there is enough fuel. Each smelting operation takes 10 seconds and the progress will be shown on the arrow icon which indicates the Cooking. Unfortunately, you can’t speed up the smelting process by going to sleep. The trick here is that when a player goes to bed, no time actually passes and the game simply sets the time of a day to morning.
