Xbox 360 No auto shutoff with Kinect?

I have my Xbox set up to shut off on its own after 1 hour of inactivity. This used to work fine, but stopped once I got my Kinect. I notice that if the screen dims, it comes back up when I walk in front of the Kinect. We use this because our daughter tends to turn on the Xbox from time to time. Has anyone had any similar experiences?
