Number of Apps on Windows Phone

Last time I've heard, many shy away from Windows Phone because it simply couldn't compete against Android and iPhone when it comes to the number of apps. Is this still the case today? I remember reading somewhere that Microsoft will focus on shortening the "app gap" this year. I ask this because I am seriously considering a Windows Phone for my next smartphone.

Yeah, it's still pretty sad. My mom got one out of needing a smart phone recently and she thinks it's "OK" but even she (who is not technically inclined) knows it doesn't have anywhere near as many apps.

So nothing has changed? That is sad, indeed. I guess I will be forced to shy away from a windows phone again.
