We’re humbled (and thrilled) that Xbox One has been recognized for another top industry award—this time by Popular Science as a winner of their annual “Best of What’s New” awards for our new and improved Kinect for Xbox One!

Each year, editors at Popular Science look for the 100 innovations that are reshaping the future by making our world better and more efficient. We’re excited that Kinect for Xbox One was called out in the entertainment category for its more powerful camera and ability to map skeletal and muscular movement, estimate heart rate and track emotions.

“For more than a quarter century, Popular Science has devoted its December issue to the year’s most remarkable innovations. The Best of What’s New Awards is our magazine’s top honor, and the 100 awardees are selected from a pool of thousands,” said Cliff Ransom, Executive editor, “and each winner is handpicked and revolutionary in its own way. Whether they’re poised to change the world or simplify your living room, the Best of What’s New awardees challenge us to see the future in a new light.”

Kinect for Xbox One appears in the December 2013 issue of Popular Science magazine, which is currently on newsstands.

Awesome! This is the second time in the last few months that MSFT has won an award from PopSci for the XBOX ONE. It's a testament to the great innovation it brings as a gaming console, entertainment hub, and most importantly a piece of hardware tech. It is a very exciting time to be a game and I'm sure MSFT will continue to innovate the XB1 via their usual software/firmware updates. What do you guys think of the award?

That was great to hear! Say what you want about Kinect, it is an awesome technology and deserves the praise it gets. I read an article about the PS4 camera and how it will have most of the functionality that Kinect has soon. I call bull$***!

Well, i can't say that was unexpected.
Kinect is an extremely powerful tool, not to say about Xbox in whole.
more powerful camera and ability to map skeletal and muscular movement, estimate heart rate and track emotions.
That's quite ground-breaking if you just think about it. All this in a piece of hardware, just for your entertainment - FASCINATING

What do you guys think of the award?
Awards are good, of course. And since XboxOne is indeed one of the leaders in hardware\software cooperation between consoles, it surely deserves it.
Engineers made a huge leap, so why not treat them with some pride?

Microsoft and Xbox developers really got it perfect this time. All that hard work - and a perfect result.
The Award is definitely what they needed. As well as spreading such news would help promote Xbox, it would also show how intense the game-side of Microsoft is now.
Way to go!

lol
In my opinion, this is just a marketing scheme - you wait till almost the release date, award to prize to the upcoming product, and just wait for the people to eat the bait.
Clever though. I am curious how much did it cost Microsoft to make such a move

This is a yearly award list and its not just the Kinect. There's various peices of tech being awarded.

That's good news. Kinect is indeed a piece of art and technology in one.
