I have this game, I really like it once they patched the bugs out. Traffic mostly, traffic nearly broke my city because people wouldn't get to and from work in the next city it was so crowded. I couldn't get my residential town to work because school busses refused to work. Garbage collection suffered. But, now mostly everything is working. There are still some things that will be coming out in the next patch to fix even more problems and make the game better.
I think this is better than SimCity 4. Yes it does lack highways and gigantic spanning zones, but that adds an extra element to strategy to it. How can you get your zoning to get the biggest businesses and rich folk and what not. They make going "green" difficult in the beginning. I had such a long wind farm that it was just crazy. Finally got the research done for the advanced Solar Farm. Which made my city require a fraction of the space for electricity.
There are some nice exploitable bugs that you can use to your favor to make your big city last long term. If you delete your dump everything turns into ground pollution, but if you plant trees over the polluted areas, the trees soak up the pollution and die. Then you rinse and repeat until you have less ground pollution and start another dump. Also, building your water pump next to a water treatment plant will give you infinite water in your city. I think the bug may have been fixed, but big cities were draining all the ground water before it would replenish.
I have spent a lot of time with this game. It did have its bumpy beginning, but overall pretty nice.
