Xbox 360 Since when did xbox charge you for something other then Points?

Alright, my live was going to end tomorrow so i went and bought a pre-paid card, and i bought 1000 points, which is 15.23, and then 9.00 + tax would still be under 25, but then they added a dollar out of the blue, and charged me.. ? and now i have like 8.77, and dont have enough to buy another 1 month, Tomorrow they are getting a phone call. But if anyone knows a way to fix please post here.
