Would you credit the PlayStation with the growth of the horror genre?

I've heard it said that horror as a game style didn't really get a boost until the PlayStation. I don't know if I agree with that, but I will say that I do asspciate the PSone with RE and Silent Hill and most of the horror games I have are for the PS2. Since then most of my horror is for the 360, but yeah in some ways it seems like the PlayStation and Horror is linked together in my mind. I don't know - thoughts?

Well, I sort of agree. I don't remember any really popular horror games on consoles before the PS1, though there certainly ARE horror games for those consoles. I would credit Silent Hill and Resident Evil more than the Playstation itself, though.

I think I would, there have been some good horror game that have been released on Playstatio Claptrap mentioned Resident Evil, which is one of my favorite games of all time.
