Is Xbox Live Overrated?

I don't use Xbox Live, but I do not believe it is overrated. My main reasoning for this is that millions of people still use it. If Live was not good, people would not be willing to pay for it when there is a free alternative available on the PS3.

The Xbox 360 doesn't seemed to have lost any steam, so I can only assume that Live is still a solid service.
