During Xbox's E3 panel today, Yusef Mehdi announced that starting July 1st NEW and EXISTING Xbox Live Gold Members will be receiving 2 free games a month up until the XB1 release in November. He also announced the 1st two titles to become available are: Assassin's Creed II and Halo III. Not bad, but fairly old titles. I would like to see them release older titles pertaining to upcoming sequels become free, i.e. GTA IV in prep for GTA V.

Good effort to catch up to PS+ far superior service but it's too little, too late in my opinion. The games are old, especially compared to the games Sony gives out with their service and just the fact that they're only implementing this now at the very end of their consoles life is telling of the kind of business practice Microsoft is really about.

I agree, at least give people Reach and AC3. I mean ACII? I wonder if people get all the maps for Halo 3, probably not. PS+ does it perfect. They give you a bunch of games right away and cycle new ones all the time. It's really a great service.

Assassin's Creed II is a great game for anyone who hasn't played it. Of course, I'll take just about any game if it's free. Halo 3 is dated but still an excellent game, but I don't really have any interest in having it now that Halo: Reach and Halo 4 are out.

Playstation has been doing that for years. Funny how Microsoft just thought about doing this. I feel like they're just trying to redeem themselves and compensate for such horrible policies. At least it's something.

That's true, and on some level I do appreciate it. You'd think they'd just fix the weird policies to begin with, but hey. They released Fable III for free, and I'd been wanting to play it, so I'm not complaining.

I don't understand your issue but I won't passup on free games. Whether they're old or new, its still free. Games don't get wore down if you've never played them. While everyone has probably played Halo 3 and Assassins Creed II, have you completed it? Do you have all the achievements?

Maybe you rented or borrowed it back when it came out and now you'll be able to add 2 games to your library each month for free.

When people complain about free stuff in life, I can't help but laugh. Sony does offer some great new stuff compared to Xbox and Microsoft has some things to do to get people back, but this is not the thread or place to discuss that.

I had Assassin's Creed II, but I had to sell it to raise money for a new hard drive when mine stopped working. That said, I don't know if I want to replay it, but I certainly won't turn down a free game that I really enjoyed. Halo 3 is also a great game, especially for those who haven't played it, but I can't imagine many people wouldn't have played it by now unless they didn't want to anyway.

Maybe they are starting with older games, and are going to release newer games closer to launch day?

I can honestly say I have NEVER touched an Assassins Creed game. So yeh, I will definitely pick it up; for free. I just got confused with the whole series, are those other non-numbered Creed games expansions?

In my opinion, it's a good job you playing AC2 first. I was seriously unimpressed by the original AC in terms of game play. You were literally doing the same thing over and over. AC2 found its feet though, plus if I remember correctly, you get the jist of the whole storyline in AC2 anyway :)
