I'm trying to figure out how much a used xbox one should cost on craigslist, because my friend's dad has a spare one he wants to sell but wants as much as he can get from it. I've seen a ton of different prices, but how much is too much? Like how close to retail are people willing to pay for these things 2ndhand?

Price it based on where you live and how much the people there are willing to pay for a next gen console. Look at similar local classifieds ads and perhaps price yours a little below that because people won't want to pay a lot for a second hand piece of tech. Especially a game console.

If you think of it, people who are willing to buy pre-used consoles are doing so because they simply cannot afford a new one, so pricing it high won't get you anywhere. Use psychology to your advantage and make sure the Xbox looks crispy and clean, a good looking product is more attractive.

It's not really about that, I'm just wondering how close to list price is too close. The thing is basically new, this is an old man console that has been flipped on under 100 times since it's been bought, never runs for long and doesn't even gather dust cuz his wife is an ocd cleaner

This is just me but I won't pay more than half price for used electronics. One of the things you lose when you buy used is the warranty so you need to price it low enough to compensate for that.

Yeah I understand that, but he doesn't care about that, just wants as much as he can safely get. There are plenty of people that would rather just save 40 bucks and go out swingin' than buy new from a major retailer

Price it high and then come down if it doesn't sell. Make it fifty bucks cheaper, for example (or whatever... name your price as long as it's cheaper than brand new) and then give it a week. If no one bites, mark it down another ten or twenty bucks. Eventually it'll sell or you'll just hit a point where you're absolutely not willing to mark it down anymore.

I recommended that to him but he is hella old man stubborn. He wants the highest price and to leave it there until someone buys it, he used to be in sales and is an investor...it makes sense from his perspective after I heard it from him. Like he's invested 10k for a year for a simple 7%, if he just holds out, he basically invested in getting his own money back, smart guy.

Whеn thе Xbоx Оnе dеbutеd оnе yеаr аgо, gаmеrs hаd tо shеll оut $499 fоr thе соnsоlе. But nоw Miсrоsоft is оffеring uр sоmе swееt dеаls аnd thеrе аrе nоw wаys tо buy аn Xbоx Оnе fоr lеss thаn $250 аs thе hоlidаy sеаsоn аррrоасhеs.

Thanks Benoit, forgot to mention that he ended up selling it + everything he had with it for just shy of $450! He had quite a bit to throw in with it though, so that's a little bit of a skewed number because of the games/controllers, still pretty much ended up with top dollar for what he had. Smart dude lol

I was going to say, to be able to get that amount for a used Xbox one, he must have had a lot of extras to throw in with it, as I wouldn't have put it up for anywhere near that amount, so fair play to him.

Here in the UK you can get a new one for £250 so to get that amount for a used one he must have seen the buyer coming, haha

It's his philosophy, I love it. He basically said he invests for years at 5%, so if he can get 5% more in a week for his stuff, he's doing better than people that are made for life off of the stock market sometime. I never thought of it like that til I tried to sell an old man's xbox lol

I wouldn't and don't think like that either, I only wish I did! I'm just usually happy to get whatever price I can for something, then it's only after I end up kicking myself when somebody says "you shouldn't have sold it for that price, I'd have give you double that!" Haha!
